I enjoyed getting to know Carrie Bradshaw BEFORE she became a NYC icon. The only problem I had with the story was that it was not in line with what we know of her from the series (i.e., it is mentioned in the series that her father left her and her mother, with no mention of siblings, at age 5...but in the book, she has an attentive father and two sisters with a deceased mother.) Of course, the series is not written by Ms. Bushnell, but by screenwriters who took creative license from the original book, SATC and the original book never delved into Carrie's past. Ms. Bushnell certainly had every right to create any past she desired for Carrie, but as a huge fan of the series, I would have been happier had it worked along side the character I came to know and love on HBO and the movies. At the end of the day, I enjoyed the book and kept picturing SJP as a teenager about the era of when she appeared in Footloose! Of course, I'll devour anything SATC, so if Bushnell publishes it about the characters present, past, future...I'll read it!
