The Amplified Bible is wonderful just to read and let your mind dwell on the things of God. I was hoping for much better page quality. I know, you do get what you pay for! I'm a little disappointed, but think I will eventually end up purchasing this in either a good hardbound copy or bonded leather. I can always gift this one out to a new believer. One of the pluses that I see are that it does have a 192 page concordance! This is very helpful. It also has a per book preface that explains the author, date and outline of the writings. It DOES NOT have the Words of Christ highlighted and I thought that a bit odd. 1985, the Lockman Foundation and Zondervan Publishing House issued the first edition of this translation. After 22 years, they have now issued this version, which is expanded. They hold true to these things: 1. Their publications shall be true to the original Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament). 2. They shall be grammatically correct. 3. They shall be understandable to the masses. 4. They shall five the Lord Jesus His proper place, the place which the Words gives Him. An example of what an Amplified Bible verse is like is the following: ...the Greek word pisteuo, which most other versions render "believe", is quite different in the Amplified version: In the original Greek pisteuo means "to adhere to, cleave to; to trust, to have faith in; to rely on, to depend on." John 11:25 in the Amplified reads "Jesus said to her, I am (Myself) the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adhere to, trust in, relies on) Me, although he may die, yet shall he live." So, the reader gains a greater understanding through the use of amplification. I love this version!
