We bought this mattress for our guest bedroom. Our guests are usually my in-laws, who all sleep on memory foam mattresses, so my husband was adamant that we should get a memory foam. After shopping around locally, we looked a few places online and originally decided to purchase a 14" memory foam mattress from Overstock. At the last minute, I started thinking about how high our "tall" bed frame was, combined with a 14" mattress and rethinking the decision. I'm very, very glad I changed my mind. Be sure to account for the height of your bed frame when considering deeper mattresses! This arrived quickly, shipped from three-states away in less than three-days. It was rolled tightly and compressed inside some plastic-canvas (plastic tarp material) and encased in a nylon over-sack. Altogether it measured the width of a typical mattress and about 18-24" in diameter. The package is HEAVY. I'm a strong, 5'10" woman and I still had to struggle to drag it over my threshold by myself. It took me at least half an hour to pull it up our spiral staircase to the second floor. I believe I read somewhere that it weighs 175 lbs. and that is clear when you try to lift it, so be prepared to get help moving it about your house if you don't think you'll be able to move that much weight. But I did finally succeed in getting into the house, up the stairs and down the hall to the guest bedroom while my husband was still at work. Once in the guest bedroom, it was another task altogether to unpack it. In retrospect, I think I should just have cut the outer packaging off of it, but for some reason I insisted on sliding it out of the sack, which was a feat. I did cut the inner packaging and was then amazed at how quickly it began to expand. The manufacturer recommends 48-hours for full-expansion, but ours was actually fully expanded in less than 24-hours. My only problem with this mattress is the smell. We're a natural/organic family and although I knew memory foam was far from natural and contained dangerous chemicals, I was really surprised by the horrible smell of the material. Make sure you allow this mattress to off-gas in a room with a closed door and open windows--you wont want the smell permeating your whole house. We allowed ours to sit for 12-days and it still stank. We actually ended up removing the zippered mattress cover that came with the mattress, washing it thoroughly, putting it back in place, buying an allergen-proof zippered mattress pad, washing it, putting it in place and then the smell was tolerable. It's been a month now and I can still smell the mattresses particular smell if I walk into our guest bedroom, but our guests didn't seem to notice and even commented on how comfortable the bed was, so I may have a particularly sensitive nose. For the price, it's an excellent mattress. It is thick and very firm, as nearly all memory foam is. The zippered cover it comes with is a nice addition that I wasn't expecting. I have no trouble imagining it holding up for years, especially with light use and yes, even with the smell, I would probably make the same purchase again.
