I read other reviews first before purchasing this as a Christmas gift for my son, who LOVES donuts! I had read that this was fun to use with pancake batter and so we had pancake donut holes dipped in syrup on Christmas morning for breakfast... It can be a little messy to fill the cups but it wasn't too bad.. I must admit, I really enjoyed them too! This cooking method seemed to give the pancake batter a really old--fashioned flavor and density without the greasiness of deep fryer donuts :-) I look forward to making donut holes and cake-pops very soon! One thing to consider before you buy: I just found out today that you can purchase a 2 piece BAKING PAN for donut holes/cake pops that you bake in the oven much like ordinary cake or cupcakes with a cover on top to shape the rising batter into round balls like the cover of this appliance does. THAT pan makes 18 of them at one time, so depending on what you are buying this for (volume or FUN) you may want to consider that option. Personally, had I known, I think I still would have chosen this little machine...it only makes 7 at a time and it takes about 4 minutes to cook. I was not thinking about bake-sales - just for ME and ONE child. It's cute to look at, fun to use and we ATE BREAKFAST with it - so you can say it has a practical side...and that's what I was looking for!
