Having grown up sleeping on heavy white cotton sheets before synthetics were available, I found these sheets to be very smooth and luxurious. Although I prefer the rougher texture of the heavier 1000 thread sheets offered at Overstock, I will admit these are smoother. My wife is way more sensitive than I am and prefers the 600-count supima sheets. It is interesting reading the reviews on the various sheets how many people find the heavier, higher thread count sheets too "scratchy". If high thread count sheets feel smooth there is something wrong. Higher thread count leads to a higher density of microscopic cotton fibers sticking out which absorb minerals from the wash water and become stiff leading to the rougher texture. With low thread count sheets there is more air space and fewer fibers, thus they feel smoother. Supima cotton has longer fibers which means there are fewer fiber ends in the thread which helps increase the smoothness. Although these sheets are silky smooth, I actually prefer the cheaper short fiber cotton with higher thread count which gives a rougher texture, but that is my preference.
