We bought this lamp to use as a nightlight for my son, who is scared of the dark. I thought it was more unique than the "aquarium" style you typically see, and I bought it without realizing that it was battery powered and takes 6 (yes six!) C batteries. We used the lamp nightly for about 2 weeks before the brand name alkaline batteries ran out. Because it costs nearly $* to replace the batteries, it would cost us about $** per month (and the inconvenience of constantly purchasing batteries) to keep the lamp operational for the purpose we bought it. Many similar lamps have wall plugs, which are much more convenient. We will keep the lamp for camping trips or occasional use but will be purchasing an electric powered lamp to use as a night light.
