After reading the reviews it was clear that the desk would not be as glossy as I hoped and that it would mark and/or wear off easily. I ordered it anyway and the reviews are accurate. I felt confident I could spruce it up with a couple of extra high gloss coats to give it a shiner lacquer look finish and provide more protection. After all, it is a great price and looks exactly as the (West Elm) parsons table. Unfortunately, the product I used didn't react well with the paint already on the desk. Apparently there is no top finish on this at all. Just a glossy white (cheap) paint and the application was quite uneven, very thin in some spots and thicker in others. I really like this desk so I decided to make it right. I've sanded down the table top enough to remove the booboo I made, applied a new base coat, followed by a bright true white, then finished it off with a few coats of high gloss finish. With drying time and all took 3 days to complete. In my view was well worth it. Now it looks amazing! I love it. I don't regret this purchase at all.
