Story Behind the Art:
I was born in Accra, the capital of Ghana. I can create sketches of styles for fabric before sending them to the seamstress to be sown and I'm also particular about details on every dress sown for me. I got the opportunity to work as a vendor for Eastern Art Arcade as a vendor. During these times with them, I visited several art workshops and saw carvers busy working on items. Because of my love for designing, I took particular interest in the way products were designed on wood. I also took keen interest in the final productions to tell if there where differences in the production on an individual order to be produced by the artist. I was promoted to quality control personnel for the company when they noticed my ability to identify the slightest differences in products. When Eastern Art Arcade finally left the country, I had developed interest in the art business ad I was encouraged to attend an export school. After completion of the course, I mobilized several carvers. I used to sketch the designs on paper and send it to them to carve them out. After I would sit close to them and direct them as to how I wanted the design on the carved works. I took the time to also learn how to nail the aluminum on the wood. It was so interesting trying my hands on the work. With time I hand improved on the designing and I could assist in the designing of the items. I always looked out for cracks in the carved wood, the measurement of the items, because they all had to be exact before I pick the items from my carvers to the workshop for finishing. Because I also participate in the designing of the finished products, I have direct contact with those who assist me to design and I check out for exact designs. One thing I have come to love about this carving business is that there is no waste of wood. Every small wood can be used to create small creatures. It gives me so much joy to see finished products being admired by customers and the returns I make on the sale of these art works help me to support the education of my children through school. I have taught two people how to design carved objects who are working with me and I also have three experienced designers. I have 10 carvers working for me. It is my dream to increase in business and expand my workshop. I also hope as this increase is realised, I would be able to increase my worker base to about ten designers and about twenty carvers. I have participated in the exhibitions of T.K Maxx - in February 2011
