Story Behind the art:
Hi, my name is Mohammad Hussain Baba and I was born on 1st March 1991 in Srinagar, Kashmir, India. Those who know me well describe me as someone who is hardworking, calm, relaxed and caring. As papier-mache is our ancestral work, I have always been attracted towards it since childhood. I realized that this craft is 450 years old and needs the attention of the young upcoming generation. My father taught me, my siblings and other artisans working for us in this craft. To learn anything needs practice and focus. Without practicing and focusing I believe it is not possible to learn anything. I also believe there are no masters of craft we focus and learn new things every day. We work with paper and wood raw materials procured from suppliers we have known. We don't prepare any raw material, also the products are not recycled or reusable. My favorite thing about this craft is working with colors and I love creating new designs. It is difficult to sell our products since the art is not known to many people. I get inspiration from my father and grandfather who worked day and night promoting this craft on their level best. I have more than 20 artisans working with us including both males and females. The male members are the bread source of their families while the female artisans support the household. It is an immense gratitude when you see you are doing a really great thing by not only helping yourself but also helping others. Together we want to promote our old-age art and bring some new creativity.
