La Pastiche Blind Girl with Opulent Frame, 29" x 33"

24" X 36" Blind Girl by John Everett Millais, painted in 1856, depicts two young girls thought to be sisters. One girl, blind, has a concertina resting in her lap, while the younger of the two is gazing and pointing up at the sky as though she is describing the scene to her sister. This painting is thought to be an interpretation as an allegory of the senses. Each sister experiencing different senses. One taking in the sun on her face and the grass between her fingers. The other girl shielding her eyes for the sun and rain as she admires the double rainbow. At an even closer look you can see a butterfly resting on the shawl of the blind girl, showing us just how still she must be. When this piece as first exhibited in 1856, it was pointed out to the painter, Millais, that with a double rainbow the inter rainbow's colors are in reverse order. Millais repainted this detail to make the piece scientifically accurate. Today the original is part of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, but our reproduction offers the same hand-painted details bringing the scene to life in your own space!
