Story Behind the Art:
My name is Ritu Thapar. As an Air Force family, we moved throughout India. I enjoyed the opportunity to travel and be exposed to many of the different cultures and traditions of my country as I grew up. I graduated from Jesus and Mary College in Delhi. After my daughter was born I worked for a time, but soon gave it up to take care her. One day strolling through the Delhi Haat crafts bazaar I fell in love with the terracotta jewelry I saw. Encouraged by my husband, I trained to learn how to make it myself. I have been designing jewelry since 2011. I've been able to train young enthusiasts and even employ them. I have taught a few women from rural backgrounds to make simpler beads while the more creative work is done by the artists in my workshop.
I get inspiration from nature, from my daughter and from things around me. I create most of the designs. For now, I hire a kiln to fire my jewelry but I hope very soon to have my own.
