Story Behind the Art:
Indian artisan Syed Izaz Hussein was born in the Kashmir valley, where the tradition of carpet weaving and chain stitching is as old as the land itself. His chain stitched rugs are hand-embroidered using wool floss on a cotton base. Syed also demonstrates superior skill in the realm of papier mache and holds a copyright on certain teal-colored designs and patterns, which he incorporates into select papier mache works.
