Story Behind the Art:

• This rug was made by village weavers in northern Afghanistan who recreated the original Farahan design. All washing, spinning, and dyeing of the wool are done in their homes, where they process the wool themselves prior to making the rugs. The majority of the weavers are women who live in the villages of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Through purchasing these rugs, we are able to create job opportunities for female weavers who otherwise would not have the opportunity to do so. The community also thrives from rug weaving as the local farmers benefit from wool sales, and the local artisans create natural and vegetable dyes for the weavers to use in their designs.
