Best Reasons to Have a California King Bed

Similar in size to a standard king bed, a California king bed is four inches longer, allowing a lot of extra room top to bottom. A California king bed measures 72 inches wide and 84 inches long, and a standard king mattress measures 76 inches wide and 80 inches long, so while a California king mattress is four inches longer, it is also about four inches thinner than a standard king bed. Making a decision between the two might be difficult. Ultimately, both are great options, but there are a few conditions that might make a California king size bed the clear choice. Before you pick which king mattress is right for you, here are a few of the best reasons to choose a California king bed.

Why Buy a California King Bed:

If you are very tall: If you are an exceptionally tall person, those four extra inches will be heaven sent. There is nothing worse than hanging off the bottom of your mattress or over your king bed frame. Sometimes you are going to want to stretch out, and when those times come, you’ll want to be able so sprawl over your bed without sliding off the bottom or mashing you face into the king headboard.

If your room is long and narrow: If your room is a bit abnormal and longer than it is wide, you might like to leave a longer space to the side of your bed, instead of forcing the open space of your room into a narrow “L” shape. A California king bed will allow you to have a large king-size mattress without condensing your bedroom into a tube.

If you are a single sleeper: If you don’t have a bed companion, it might be impractical to get a standard king-size bed. With just one person, a standard king bed might be a bit too wide. On the other hand, a California king bed is still large but doesn’t have a vast width for you to attempt to fill alone.

If you want to stay close: If you do have a partner in bed and like to stay close, you might enjoy a narrower but longer California king mattress. You’ll still have a large bed, but you’ll have plenty of opportunities to stay near your bed mate.
