4 Ways to Enjoy the Outdoors During the COVID-19 Quarantine

In an effort to contain Covid-19, we are finding ourselves with few places to go, which is forcing many of us out of our comfort zones…and into the great outdoors! If self-quarantining at home is quickly becoming old, getting outside can bring you a moment of relief. A good exercise opportunity or a fun adventure can make social distancing more bearable. Here are a few opportunities to help you relax and enjoy the outdoors during the coronavirus quarantine.

1

Soak Up Some Sun

We all need time to relax. With so many stressors in our modern lives, sometimes you just need the sun on your face, or at least a new setting to kick back and enjoy a snack or a good book. For some of us, experiencing nature is just sitting on your bistro set with a nice drink. Others can sway in the breeze in a hammock, drifting in and out of sleep in the shade. Even if you only have a few minutes in the day, take a break by walking around your backyard and soak up some vitamin D.

2

Take Cooking Outdoors

Cooking outdoors is an amazing experience. You’re surrounded by the sounds and beauty of nature, you have less mess to clean up once your food is ready, and who can resist the flavor of food cooked on the grill?

A large gas grill or smoker is ideal if you have a family or like to host backyard bbqs. If you prefer tailgating or the occasional campout, check out a portable gas grill, which also comes in handy if you need to cook in the event of a power outage. And if you’re a fan of pizza, it might be time to invest in an outdoor pizza oven.

Whatever outdoor cooking device you choose, it’s fun to try different recipes and step outside of the confines of your kitchen whenever possible, especially if you’re spending extended periods of time at home. Check out our guide to Outdoor Cooking Essentials for more ideas.

3

Get Your Hands Dirty

Yardwork can offer instant gratification as well as exercise, which is why many people flock to their gardens once the weather allows. If you’re food-conscious, consider taking up gardening and growing your own vegetables or herbs. This can be done with a simple garden planter for beginners or a large-scale greenhouse for the experienced gardener.

Spending more time at home might mean more time for improving your home and landscaping. If you’re more of a yard pro, maybe it’s time to invest in a new mower or other garden tools, so you can achieve that perfectly manicured look.

Now’s the time to take advantage of the opportunity to make some memories and reconnect with your family in the great outdoors. Whether you’re working from home, caring for kids that are out of school, or spending some quality time with yourself, times like these are great reminders that enjoying the outdoors can help bring a little fun and a sense of peacefulness to your daily routine.
