  • Great shades

I like these shades; they provide privacy but let in some subdued light. The raising/lowering mechanism works fine. They look good, too. Couple of caveats: one is they are not completely room-darkening. If you need room-darkening shades don't buy these. Second, the published width is actual, not nominal. Unlike many blinds, these are not slightly undersized for inside mounting and will NOT mount properly inside a 60-inch window frame. That said, my handyman was able to cut about 3/8 of an inch off the end. It did not alter the appearance or affect the mounting hardware but I was able to mount them inside the window frame. Use a fine-toothed blade; a band saw is ideal. The blinds can be used as-is for outside-mount applications. If you can live with these caveats, these are great blinds and provide extraordinary value.

These were so inexpensive, I was expecting the worst, but our use for them was not as shades. When they arrived I was really amazed that they were so nice, I wished I was going to use them on a window. Lovely even look, and they work well.

  • great shade

The shade was used as prop on a theater stage so I didn't actually raise it up and down. But in my opinion it is very nice. Very pretty chocolate brown. Seemed very well constructed and the shipping was fast.

The shades allow low levels of sun light through, but the quality of the materials prevent most of the associated heat from accompanying it - which was my primary goal. Note that I also purchased a very light pair of draperies, more for color (and daytime privacy as needed), to pull across the shades. This provides the perfect additional sunblock for any guests wanting to sleep-in each morning, in the south eastern facing room (also a goal of mine). The price had me worried that the product would be flimsy, but it is not. The only complaint I have is the fact the shades do not "lock" in place while up; they must be tied off with the lifting-lowering side string provided. This is not a big deal for me, but does require the additional mounting of the metal anchor to hold the tie.
