Story Behind the Art:

Tribal bokhara rugs are made by nomads in Pakistan who spend years weaving each intricate detail into these rugs, specifically Mr. Mehta and his family. The original design of the rug originated in Turkmenistan. They are made on portable wooden looms typically with wool pulled from the tribe's sheep each year. They obtain their dyes naturally from local vegetables, flowers, tree bark, minerals, and insects. Graphs, or blueprints for the patterns, are used more often today but true masters create signature designs and color combinations showing their skill.

What is Worldstock?

The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected. Note: Color discrepancies may occur between this product and your computer screen.

Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.

All rug sizes are approximate. Due to the difference of monitor colors, some rug colors may vary slightly. We try to represent all rug colors accurately. Please refer to the text above for a description of the colors shown in the photo.

Please keep in mind that new wool rugs may initially shed and have a natural capacity to shed for several months after purchase. This is normal due to the nature of construction of most wool rugs and not a defect. Click here to view our Wool Rug Care Guide.

These are very short pile rugs with dense stitching. They are made of wool but are very silky to the touch, which we love. We bought 3 rugs, in 2 sizes, and there is slight variation in colour between them...probably because they are hand dyed.

Questions & Answers

  • Q:

"Hi - The picture of this rug appears to be more burgundy than red. Can anyone comment on the color? I really need one that is more of a burgundy red. Thank you!"

    • A:

We try to represent products as accurately as possible but due to monitor differences cannot guarantee a color. To me this item looks to be a dark red.

  • Q:

"Does anyone have the true measure of the rug? Is it six feet long or a tad shorter, which is fine with me! Thanks!"

    • A:

Mine was 26" wide and 74" long including the 1" fringe on each end

    • A:

Including the fringe, mine seemingly measures exactly 6 feet long. The width seems about 25 and 3/8 inches. It is a great rug!

  • Q:

"Since this says the rug is hand-knotted can I be sure there is no backing? No latex, glue, cotton, etc? Thanks!"

    • A:

Hi egsrogers, after reviewing with our support staff we found that there is no backing, latex, glue or ect. in this rug. It is entirely hand-made with a hand-knotted weave type. I hope this helps, thanks for shopping with us.
