Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring has sprung, and with it come the dust bunnies and other detritus of the changing seasons. While more time outside is definitely a bonus, cleaning up the outdoors you've brought in on your shoes can be a chore. The trick is to tackle cleaning one project at a time. That way, it doesn't seem like one giant task. When you're ready to get started, we're here to help with free shipping on select spring cleaning* items through March 22, 2012.

There are lots of theories on how to clean, but just getting started is the best tip of all. I like to start by getting organized; it's easier to clean if you're not working around clutter. Pick up clothes and shoes, hang up coats, and pick toys up off the floor. If you're lucky enough to have a closet storage system, this is the time to put it to use. I like to extend the organizing to the garage and keep everything in its place, bikes on the wall and tools in the cupboard, but that can be a task for another day.

Once the floor is clear, you can vacuum without having to  stop every few feet. I love my Dyson Animal Vacuum; like all Dyson vacuums, it's bagless, so it doesn't lose suction (and I don't have to change vacuum bags), and it has all the attachments I need for getting deep into couch crevices and along baseboards.

When you're ready to take the cleaning outside, make sure you have the tools you need to do your project justice. Whether it's a lawnmower, some landscaping supplies, or a pretty planter  for some flowers, having what you need on hand will keep you from getting sidetracked and leaving the task for another day. And don't forget some cute gardening clogs; they'll keep your feet dry, and you can slip them off at the door when you go inside.

What are your tips for keeping things clean? And how do you get motivated to get started?

I LOVE cleaning. LOVE IT. And I love shopping for shelves, hooks, and bins for organization. I am looking forward to cleaning the garage, once I've convinced my husband to sweep out the spiders (ACK). I can't wait to get some shelving and put everything where I can see it.

Unexpected guests are great motivators. So are little rewards, like a bouquet of flowers to put in your fresh, clean house.
