This base layer bottom is thinner than I expected but is warm as merino wool should be. I shall be wearing it every weekend for my long walks. My only reservation is that I am about the same size as the model shown in the picture; I am 34-25-34 while the model is 34-26-34, and I am 5'4" while the model is 5'6". I expected to look like the model when I put it on, but I don't. It is too large on my waist by about 5 inches in circumference. There is also an added piece in between legs, which to me makes it look like men's clothing. Thank God, I can sew so will alter it myself. But this would work better on a person with a 36-30-38 figure. I give four star for the soft buttery merino wool.
I wanted to wear these as leggings under a sweater dress, and they'll work okay for that but they do run a little big. Not baggy, but I definitely could have gone with a medium even though on the size chart I'm a large. I live in Florida (these are for an upcoming vacation to colder climates), and have no idea how thermal wear is supposed to fit- but if you do want them tighter like leggings, go a size down. They did keep my legs warm when it was around 50 degrees, unlike the thick tights and cotton leggings I already had. Definitely not the baggy horrible thermal underwear I remember from the past.
I wore this once and the zipper became stuck and then busted completely. The snaps on the shoulder straps did not stay snapped. I was considering tacking them myself but then the zipper broke and it suddenly felt pointless. I purchased the correct size so fit wasn't the issue. I did love the leg vents and the ability to adjust the length of the leg with a Velcro option. I had such high hopes. Maybe after a break from them I will reevaluate fixing this investment!
