I thought I was in shape because I'd been using treadmills, elliptical and weight machines at gym. This was a killer at first! I'm still only doing 15 min at a time after a couple of weeks and I was doing 30 min on the other equipment.
Just keep in mind this is a very SIMPLE piece of equipment. you step on and use your own weight as you climb. It's sturdy but there are no monitors or anything like that. If you are looking for a very simple piece that you just climb then this is for you. If you're looking for all the bells and whistles then look else where. some of the pieces look welded together but I get on it and climb and it gives me a workout. You can use ankle weights also if you need to but again this is very simple to put together and simple to use.you can use the lower handles if you don't want to work your arms and just want to work your legs or you can climb using the handles that go up and down.
I really like this machine. It arrived in one box that was left outside my front door. I brought it inside myself and assembled it alone. I could have used an extra hand with assembly, but I certainly was able to assemble it myself. Read the instructions carefully several times before you start assembly. As far as the machine itself, I"m extremely happy. It is easy to use and it feels very similar to the one I use in the gym. The only thing that might be a problem is that the machine maxes out at 75 lbs. That hasnt been a problem for me, but it is worth noting.
i don't think i will ever need another piece of equipment. i get a total work out only need to do it 3 days a week for 30 minutes, it simple its easy and its at home...well worth the cost, took about 15-20 minutes for assembly but not rocket science by any means.
