I bought this telescope for my 10 year old granddaughter who is a science geek. She loves it and is more interested in astronomy. It is very well constructed and feels substantial, not plastic like a toy. Great buy and well worth the money.
Know nothing about astronomy but wanted something new to do with the 'old man. Wanted something appropriate for a beginner but did not want a toy, child's telescope or cheap plastic. Wanted a real, quality telescope with some room to grow into, not grow out of in 10 minutes. This was the best thing I could find during my research and given the price I think it's one of the best values in it's category. We spend time in a high mountain area with some spectacular terestrial views as well as an ideal low-polution sky environment so I think a Newtonian is a good choice for a beginner who wants to be able to look at both.Parts seem durable, it was easy to set up and there were some great resources to get started and learn terminology and concepts. I look forward to learning more about this field of study and hope this scope lasts for quite some time.
When I started assembling the telescope, I noticed a piece was broken. It was a plastic piece that holds the telescope to the tripod. I went to the hardware store and bought a piece of pvc pipe and fixed it because it wasn't worth sending it back just for that. Plus it was a present for my son who was already disappointed that his new telescope was broken. Other than that the telescope itself is fine. It's a good starter telescope but I'm not sure how long it will last since it has many plastic parts.
