The design hasn't changed in years. That's good in the sense that they are solidly built and can take a lot of abuse. They fit my 9 year old pretty well, and should last him until he graduates to the 27" version. But the design could use some updating with the straps. They work well, but not easy for kids to get on and off -- and my kids are impatient. I would have thought that Mylec would have gone to velcro by now. The good thing is that there are only three straps on the 22" version, vs five on the 27" version.
The bike does come unassembled with directions for 4 bikes in one instruction book. That was a bit confusing, especially since the diagrams were quite small. The bike itself is sturdy and fills that gap between a 12 inch and 16 inch size.
