I've had this tent for almost a year and used it several times in all weather conditions. I don't think you can beat it for the price. It didn't leak when it rained and stayed fairly warm, and it had great ventilation when we left the mesh open in summer. It fits 3 average-sized people and my large dog (a lab) comfortably. For the price, it's lightweight compared to other tents and I've taken it on a couple 10+ mile backpacking trips. It's very easy to assemble. Prior to purchasing, I'd never assembled a tent, and I put it together without instructions in only a few minutes. It's also easy to break down and put back in the carrying pouch, so long as you get all the air out and roll it tight. I've heard that cheaper tents have fiberglass poles that are prone to shattering, but this tent has sturdy aluminum poles that I haven't had a problem with. The tent is very durable and well constructed. Another friend of mine recently purchased the same tent after being so impressed with mine, and agrees it's the best value for the money.
I wanted a light weight back pack and settled on the Mountainsmith Scream 55 and I was pleasantly surprised. The pack is very lightweight and has a lot of space.
Carries as nicely as any messenger using the supplied shoulder strap. Tons of room (think Jansport Classic type of room). Loads more like a backpack than a messenger due to the taller size. Does great as a lumbar pack; barely feel the weight at all (my test cargo weighed in at 13 lbs). The straps on the bottom are good to hold a windbreaker type jacket, small light tarp, etc. while the front shock cord can also hold about the same. If you intend to load this out to capacity, the Mountainsmith Srappettes would be a great add on. I use this pack for both my work commute and for hiking so far; I've had a load out for a light overnighter but haven't had the weather to try it out yet (you're not taking your sleeping bag or wool blanket with this pack). I'm happy to say it's completely at home in the woods or the city.
