These binoculars are a Christmas gift for my husband so he hasn't had the opportunity to use them yet. They look very durable, they're easy to handle due to their size and sleek casing that's easy to get a grip on. Love the fact that their waterproof and float to the surface if dropped in water!
When the description mentioned that these were rugged I thought that included waterproof, or at least water resistant. I purchased 2 pair for a recent canoeing trip. As sometimes, happens the bottom of the canoe had some water sloshing around. The binoculars got wet and the lens fogged up. The lenses did not clear for several days. For a $** pair of Binoculars they are pretty good. Just don't get them wet.
Bought these to carry along on a canoe trip in the Everglades- didn't want to risk an expensive pair in the water- and they worked just fine. They're lightweight and compact (about the size of a 1st-generation digital camera) and they tuck nicely into their little case. They focused fully and had decent range- not as good as a pair a ranger let me borrow later in the trip (on dry land!) but for their size, they're certainly worth throwing in a bag when you're out in nature. Glad we had them more than once on our trip.
This Telescope was purchased as a Holiday gift for my daughter. PROS: 1. Box arrived on time, undamaged (double packed) 2. Craftsmanship was good, especially given the low price. Based on other models in this price range that I looked at in department stores, this was put together much better, and with similar materials. 3. The magnification and features seem comparable or higher than competitor models. 4. The short barrel and light weight makes it easy for my 10 year old daughter to carry and position. 5. Fully adjustable tripod base & the manual controls provide granular movement for excellent focus on far away celestial objects (mostly the moon, at this magnification). CONS: 1. In order to achieve different levels of magnification you have to switch lenses (as with similar models). Because of the way this telescope was made, the lenses are not well protected during the transition, and children are likely to finger optics and the lenses are prone to scratching, or being dropped in the process (has not happened to us yet - but we're constantly reminding her to be careful). Otherwise, this is a great sturdy, child-resistant beginner telescope. 2. The tripod is small, and it must be used on a table or other raised surface which may not be readily available where you are trying to set up.
