when I put this train set together it looks very nice, but train will not stay on tracks and tracks crumbled when it was taking apart. This train set is not made to play with.

  • Broken right out of the box

First of all, arrived in a box that clearly said on the outside "Christmas Train," ruining any surprise that I had hoped for for a Christams eve present for my husband and little girl, who found the package on the porch before I got home. When they did open it to put it together - the switch didn't work. My husband opened the engibe up: the switch was not connected to anything, wires loose all over the place. The switch itself? Made of plastic, no metal connections anywhere. He spent almost 2 hours on Christmas eve making a brand-new switch just to get it to work, then another 30 minutes trying to figure out how to make the thing stay on the track once it got going, as there was no speed control and it tended to race itself right off the tracks. Once he FINALLY got it all worked out, then it behaved itself, and made a nice addition around the tree, but defintely NOT worth the effort!!

Our 3 1/2 year old daughter only wanted 2 things for Christmas this year 1) make-up 2) a train set that moved on its own. She told everybody she met, including every Santa! We were very excited that Santa was going to grant her this wish come Christmas morning. And to be honest, with all the gift wrap options out there, we never thought to "test" this item, for we had all other items gift wrapped and sent to others. At 4:30AM when our daughter woke us up to tell us that Santa had indeed stopped at our house, we rushed out of bed to open her first gift----her magical train set! Unfortunately, it turned out to not be so magical after all. The main piece where the engine resides didn't work at all right out of the box. The engine piece was completely dead. My husband is in IT and works on small electronics and tried everything to make it work. The unit was dead out of the box. Simple as that. Our daughter in tears at this point was told, "It's a push train, you have to make it go!" So my husband then started to put the track together and realized that 2 rail pieces did not fit together properly either, so he had to "jimmy" them together do they'd fit well enough together so when she'd manually push the train it wouldn't slide off the track. Also, because now she has to manually push/pull the train, the cars keep falling off because of the momentum of it not being battery operated at a constant rate. A VERY disappointing Christmas morning for us all.
