My 2 year old daughter loves this toy. It is better than the peg toys because the balls make a cool sounds going through the center of the tower. She likes picking the balls up an placing them back on top.
This is similar to a toy I played with as a youngster in the 40's. While I don't remember exactly what it looked like, I remember that whenever you pounded something into the box (I think it had five sides- including the top) something else would come out. I've always thought of it as a metaphor for life: just when you think you've got something fixed, something else goes wrong. This could just be a product of my imagination, but I'm pretty sure that there actually was such a toy. Any thoughts?????? In the meantime, my 18 month old grandson loves the Deluxe Pounding Bench: it deals with colors, and hand-eye coordination in holding the hammer, and hitting the pegs with the end of the hammer instead of the side. I don't think he thinks about the philosophical aspect, however.
