I had zero experience with baitcasting reels but wanted to step up and start using them due to the obvious advantages. I did a lot of research and bought this reel. It is excellent. I have had zero backlashes by properly setting up the spool tension and magnetic brake. Those two controls (especially the magnetic brake) allow for a great deal of fine tuning on your casts. Casting consistently past your target?? Dial in a click or two more on the magnet and that nicely reigns it in. Also, due to this reel having 10 bearings, the casting and retrieval are SUPER smooth. Buttery! Pros: 1. Anti-reverse. You set the hook, and there is no reverse at all in the spool. You won't miss a fish because of the reel. Critical for when the bite is picky. 2. Adjustability. 3. Weight/comfort. This thing is super light so it won't throw off the balance of the rod. Very comfortable when palming as well. 4. Price. I don't think you'll find a better quality reel at this price point. Cons: The only minor gripe I have is the spool tension knob is a bit tricky to get just right. It's very tight so finding the sweet spot is a bit tough to nail...but once it is set properly, it won't "self-adjust." And you shouldn't have to be adjusting much anyway unless you're throwing lures with vastly different weights.
It's a Lamiglass, it's arguably the best brand name/ material you can buy in a fishing rod and deservedly so. Flexible like you cannot imagine and able to take more than it's rated in the hands of an experienced angler. Super forgiving if you're an intermediate and an eye opener if you're a novice. This is top of the line fishing equipment. I pulled in a 14lb striped bass from the surf with this rod. It took some time, but the rod held up as I was aware of the rod's ~5lb max pressure and the fight was worth every second Five pounds of constant pressure is enough for this type of fish if you wait him out. The sensitivity & whipping action of this rod is phenomenal it can toss a 1oz lure the way it should be tossed. Tons of fun with this rod's action, just take your time and let the rod do it's "thing" when you hook-up. If you like to "muscle" the fish in, this rod is not for you, (unless you're going for fish 3lbs or under).
