A low profile line counter reel has been needed in the fishing world for a long time. I prefer spinning reels for spoon jigging but not being able to know the depth of the spoon has been a problem for all of us. I use to use a black marker and mark my line every 10 feet and then count it down. Okuma has finally seen the light and built a line counter that we can jig with! I have almost a dozen Okuma line counter trolling reels so I wasn't worried about spending my money on a "new type" of reel. The quality is there , the weight is light enough to use all day and the bait clicker is louder than any of my 11 trolling reels, BUT I do have 1 fault with the design. The reel needs a "grip pad" on top of the frame for your thumb to rest on. It is very smooth and slick and palming the reel as you do when holding the reel / rod with one hand leaves you without enough control when you set the hook on a monster. I have relatively small hands and it would be possible to lose my grip and lose the reel / rod to a hard hitting fish.
I would expect to pay a whole lot more than i did for the reel .The reel is smooth since i purchased this reel i have ordered another one but the size smaller i ave never felt i needed to duplicate a reel but can not let this one be a regret and a wish i had not done so .I Love this reel pure and simple
I recommend any Okuma reel to anyone that wants more than just a reel , construction of this reel went to the full max it's balanced well and with the number of bearings in this reel makes you a very smooth reeling reel
