I was very excited to receive this product from the many good reviews I read and from a buddy of mine that actually bought one too, however, during my initial setup the very top right corner on the chair back side ripped!!! My initial thought was "#@% I did something wrong" but upon further investigation into the inside of the tent I noticed that the tent was sewn wrong thereby attaching the side of the tent to the corner further down than it was meant to be. Imagine my sigh of relief...I'm hoping this is just a rare occurrence because the rest of the tent cot is very well made (and I checked EVERYWHERE). I did a replacement request *** within 20 minutes of opening box so I'm crossing my fingers this will be an easy exchange...but onto the review. I like the foam mattress that it comes with but I may still add another thin air mattress as I prefer the comfort for my back. The head room that this oversized tent cot comes with is just right for my 6 ft (200+ lb) frame while sitting toward the center but you wouldn't be able to hang a light there at the same time. That was a nice surprise too, that it even included ties at the very center to do so. There's 4 hanging pockets on each end (3 small and 1 large that has a velcro closure) but they face toward the outside of the tent and seems it would be a little awkward getting things into or out of unless you were grabbing whatever out from the outside when the ends are open but this is a very small inconvenience for myself. There's a small vent door on the top center of each side door that is secured with velcro running down the sides to keep it open or closed at any position that I imagine is to cut back on condensation inside (very clever) or just for someone else to peek inside and talk to you (Ummm, ok) as it is located on the outside portion of the doors. The poles up top are simple enough with ends that are simply placed into the holes on plastic connectors at each end and are held in place by plastic connectors that just snap onto the poles, very convenient for small areas as you don't have to start feeding the poles through anything. The zippers have color coordinated cords for easy opening (black for outside tent portion and yellow for inside mesh). The legs come with sturdy plastic feet attached to them with teeth for traction. I knew that it was a 4-in-1 system (chair, lounge, cot and tent cot) when buying it but found that the chair configuration was somewhat larger than I had hoped for as I cannot sit all the way back and have my feet on the ground at the same time. Maybe this would be better for someone larger than myself as there is plenty of room on this cot to fit those individuals but I have to scoot up and forgo using it comfortably and it's not the reason I got this to begin with. Everything else works just fine though. All-in-all this tent cot is what I hoped for and more (minus the defect) and once I get my replacement I will definately give the quality of this product an EXCELLENT and refer it to all my friends. I hope this helps others looking to buy this.
I ordered these for our family of four. My husband who weighs about 250 lbs slept fine as did our 2 boys. They have held up on 2 camping trips so far. I am a side sleeper and woke up approximately every 20-30 minutes with hip pain. I recently heard a tip that suggests side sleepers did a little hole under their tent for hips and shoulders so I'll be trying that next time.
I am very happy with the quality and light weight. The overall weight with the bag (also very nice) is 3.4 lbs. The bag arrived with a left hand zipper which is a big negative because I am using it in a bivy, and the picture appears to show a right hand zipper. Nice overall, I just have to use it upside down in my bivy cover.
Great sleeping bag....especially if you are tall. Very roomy for a mummy bag...which is why I purchased it. I can't stand how small some are. (I am 5'5" and 140 lbs. and this is really roomy) This seems exceptionally well made, has all the bells and whistles of more expensive bags and stuffs to a reasonable size. I plan on using this car camping throughout Alaska in May/June where the temps vary from 25-75 degrees. Lightweight so I think it will cover the range without being too hot. It will be used with a pad under and in a tent. Tried it outside on a 30 degree day and I was toasty and felt no wind seeping in (on snowy ground with medium wind) and could tighten up the hood end so it is like a cocoon in there. If you are worried about the temp rating, I would be sure to include a good sleeping bag pad as the ground cold probably would migrate through the bottom. We also own the -20 Ledge River and love it, but that one is significantly bulkier than this one and probably weighs 2 lbs more too. First time we have bought Ledge, and I am glad we did!
