I have owned this scope now for about 5 years and it's an excellent scope. All scopes have trade-offs when it comes to features they offer and this scope is in my opinion an excellent short to mid-range hunting scope. The 4A reticle with illuminated dot lends itself very well to this type of use. The heavy crosshairs and excellent glass this scope offers make it more than capable of hunting during legal shooting hours without problem. I have actually never needed the illuminated dot even at first or last light because of the excellent glass. On a full moon, i have even been able to see good enough to hunt coyotes after dark. The crosshairs are thick and get pretty thin at intersection, but not as thin as one would like for benchrest accuracy or long range hunting/shooting. The illuminated dot actually does help I have found if long range shots are needed/attempted as the thicker crosshairs tend to obscure the target, while the red dot is much easier to aim with in this situation. I have this scope mounted on my .270 which is my go to whitetail rifle and I feel like I have about the perfect hunting rifle setup for my needs. 300 yard shots and closer are a breeze and I feel confident out to 500 yards with this setup. The other big selling point for me is the rainguard offered by bushnell on this scopes outer lense surfaces. Rainguard repels water and fog and having this feature has saved my hunting on many occasions. It is such a great asset in fact, all my hunting scopes now are bushnell scopes with rainguard because I have hunted on several occasions with friends or family members who had various other scopes without rainguard, some even very nice high dollar scopes, that were unable to see through their scopes in rainy, foggy weather conditions and I had no problem. My biggest buck to date was taken during an ice storm when nobody else could see through their scope, but thankfully I could and shot my biggest buck ever. I wouldn't buy any other scope besides a Bushnell with rainguard for a hunting scope even if I could afford any scope made. If you're looking for a true dedicated hunting scope for big game at short to medium range, I think this scope is probably about the best there is available....
