We purchased this rack to organize our bicycles when they are parked in our garage. It works well, but is best suited for 4 bikes not 6 as listed. I suppose 6 small children's bikes might fit, but 6 adult road or mtn bikes wouldn't.
Overall quality is good. This is the best quality for the money I could find. Directions are very bad. Refer closely to pictures in ad for correct assembly. All U-Bolt clamps that attach actual bike hanging supports are 1/2 " too short so you will need to buy 5, 1 1/2" U-bolts with self locking nylon lined locking nuts. Powder coating on lower hardware is good. Coating on upper horizontal bar is very thin and will scratch during assy. Lock assy. is very cheap in design and use of it requires effort to make it work. I have a Jeep Wrangler and it required me to add an extension to allow for clearance of the spare tire on back of vehicle. Aside of all the downfalls, if they would have supplied the correct U-bolts, I would have given it a 5 star. Instead, I had to drive 50 miles to town and back to get correct parts for about $5 in material cost. Don't forget the nuts. Some U-Bolts use metric and some are standard. Some are std SAE thread and some are fine thread. Total assy time is under 2 hours with all correct hardware. I would still recommend it because it is well designed and affordable if bought through Overstock.com. Everyone else is over $100 more. It is worth the Overstock price. Doug in IL.
I bought this style bike carrier to hopefully be able to use between our Tahoe hitch and possibly a motor home addition when that time came. I spent a long time looking at various bike carriers on the road and also, more importantly to me, the impact those bike carriers had on the vehicles they were mounted on. After seeing many scratch marks on the trunks and fenders of cars and seeing many expensive bikes attached to expensive vehicles with bike pedals goughing into the trunk area and lower back bumpers of cars, I decided on this style carrier. It works great on the Tahoe, easy to install, fits the 2 inch hitch and has the insert to fit a smaller hitch. Keeps the bike far enough away from the SUV to prevent damage. Super easy to lift the bikes on and off the wheel trays and there is no worry that bikes will bouce off or change position. It's been great in that respect. We did end up getting the motor home and it fits the motor home well, however when both bikes are on the rack, the handle bars and the pedals do come in contact with the paint on the motorhome - so we will have to work on "best positioning" of the bikes to prevent exterior damage. That's the only reason for the score of 4. Thanks overstock.
We bought this to park 3 bikes outside under a canopy. It is impossible to have them facing a wall since three cannot go in from the same side . Three could not go in properly with two on one side and one on the other side the other facing to the center IF you have baskets or carriers on the bikes. We found it works adequately (because we have the room) to have them all facing in the same direction with two having front wheels in the slots and one having the back wheels in the center slot. It does not fit in all that well with the back wheel in the slot but it works. Not the best arrangement but given our use we'd buy it again.
