    • Great beginners telescope
      Verified Purchase

The telescope was bought for an adult. Not wanting to put too much money into something that might get used a few times then forgotten about, this was a nice option. However, the telescope is better than expected. It is used several times a week. There are things that you need to learn how to use but it's not so bad. The telescope has given him an opportunity to see craters on the moon and much more as if they were right next to him. Great beginners telescope. It is all you need.

This is my first telescope. That's why I bought 2. It's always more fun to share a wonderful learning experience with someone else. To look up and realize how big everything really is, can make one feel small, to share it with someone else you love, makes you realize the importance of each other.

This Telescope was purchased as a Holiday gift for my daughter. PROS: 1. Box arrived on time, undamaged (double packed) 2. Craftsmanship was good, especially given the low price. Based on other models in this price range that I looked at in department stores, this was put together much better, and with similar materials. 3. The magnification and features seem comparable or higher than competitor models. 4. The short barrel and light weight makes it easy for my 10 year old daughter to carry and position. 5. Fully adjustable tripod base & the manual controls provide granular movement for excellent focus on far away celestial objects (mostly the moon, at this magnification). CONS: 1. In order to achieve different levels of magnification you have to switch lenses (as with similar models). Because of the way this telescope was made, the lenses are not well protected during the transition, and children are likely to finger optics and the lenses are prone to scratching, or being dropped in the process (has not happened to us yet - but we're constantly reminding her to be careful). Otherwise, this is a great sturdy, child-resistant beginner telescope. 2. The tripod is small, and it must be used on a table or other raised surface which may not be readily available where you are trying to set up.

very basic beginner telescope, but for a first timer is all you need, i watched the full moon eclipse with it and it was spectacular, managed to see mars and some other stars, such as sirius A and B which I wasnt even aware of existing. Now its time for a bit more professional one, in order to see nebulas, and other more distant objects, any advices would be welcome!

    Questions & Answers

    • Q:

"I bought this telescope to use for "Long Range" Target shooting, up to and over 1000 yards! Will this telescope be able to see a 12" by 12" paper target at say 700 yards? The targets are black, and when the bullet hits the black target it turns orange around the hole! This scope will be used to spot bullets impacting around the target in the dirt or on the dirt berm behind the target. Is this telescope going to be able to fit my needs??? :-) Doolittle"

    • Q:

"can i also use this telescope for scenery viewing like mountains, landmarks, aside from astronomical objects in the sky?"

      • A:

Yes, you can view other things like mountains and landscapes with this item.

    • Q:

"I cannot get the site lens to line up with the main telescope at all. The manual was vague. Please help."

      • A:

Hello Michelle A., here is the information I was able to obtain. Please remember that the object to be focused at is a far away object that is very large for instance a mountainside/tall building/monument. The distance should be at least 1 mile or 1.6 kilometers before attempting to align prisms one does not need to go to those locations but from your preferred view point one should select those targets as a basis for focusing and practicing using the telescope. Once the desired target is selected the drop in eye pieces determine magnification and the focus knobs are then used in conjunction with the eye piece. PRO TIP: try to not use the BARLOW LENS until one is able to focus the telescope properly. Try on an object further away. A fish eye view is common for items focused too closely. After all the telescope has the capabilities of 300x magnification so it seems that they are having trouble focusing the telescope and using it in conjunction with their lenses. Have a great day!
