"Why did you choose this product?"
We got this for a friend who collects pennies! What a great find! The board is nice and sturdy and the coins are fun. The only thing was I wish it had come in a box. It just came in plastic wrap so we used a gift but, which was find....

Abraham Lincoln played checkers with his sons at the Soldier's Home--a cottage retreat--and was a great competitor. This Lincoln Checkers Set is composed of Lincoln Copper Wheat Ear pennies and Lincoln Steel pennies in plastic capsules to be used on a red and blue game board. The game board features the face of Lincoln honoring his love of the game. There are 12 Lincoln Copper Wheat Ear pennies minted from 1909 to 1958 with the exception of 1943 and 12 Lincoln Steel pennies minted in 1943 due to the shortage of copper in WWII. Enjoy playing one of the oldest games in man's recorded history with a touch of American competitiveness and spirit.

Questions & Answers
I found this item to be very "interesting." While on a recent vacation, our 7-year old grandson learned how to play checkers. His Mom says he's been obsessed! His birthday is this coming weekend and I started looking for a checker set for him. When I saw this one, I thought it touched on a number of his interests. I've already mentioned that he really enjoys playing checkers. He is also a fervent reader, and history is one of his MANY favorite topics. I thought this set with it's "history lessons" on Lincoln's playing checkers with his sons plus the minting of the pennies would be right up his alley. :-) Sounds like a great Show and Tell item for the coming school year too! Now I just I HOPE it arrives before his party on Sunday.
