American Coin Treasures 150 Year Anniversary Framed Civil War Stamp Collection
ITEM#: 17707517During the Civil War, coinage was hoarded when the value of the metal exceeded the face value of the coins. As a result, small change was scarce and day-to-day commerce was seriously threatened. In response to the crisis, in 1862 the government issued small denomination currency, like the 3-Cent variety seen here, which by definition was worth a fraction of a dollar. The paper currency wore out quickly, and in 1865, the 3-Cent Nickel was introduced as an alternative. Seldom seen outside of private collections and well over 100 years old, these fascinating historic oddities are handsomely mounted in a sturdy 8-inchx 10-inch acrylic frame. A very special gift for any history buff.
