I bought this for my 6-yr-old daughter who says she wants to be a scientist when she grows up. This has provided great one-one-one activity time for the two of us over Christmas break. It definitely requires adult involvement, but all you need is right in the box and in the instruction book. Makes it simple and fun. No extra fuss. We enjoyed making colored jelly crystals, learning about base and acid, and exploding and underwater volcano with baking soda and citric acid and red cabbage powder. It makes a mess, but not too bad. We have been able to do 2 experiments in a 45-minute time frame. We've done the first 8 experiments so far.
I think our 3 year old finds this a ho-hum activity since she knows her colors quite well and doesn't have a lot interest in this activity. She certainly prefers the blank side so she can design it herself. I think it's a good color-learning activity for those needing to learn colors.
