This gate easily fit our room's opening of 55" with almost an inch to spare on each side. The dogs have an easy view of whats going on through the bars of the gate. This has to be one of the best purchases we have made in a very long time. It solved several problems for us relating to our dogs. There were minor glitches installing it but nothing that could be overcome relatively easily. The template they provide for securing the latches to the walls are off for the gate side attachment. You have to work with the measurement some but once you have it in place, this works exactly as advertised. Dont know why the one reviewer said the gates werent wide enough. Absolutely isnt true. The screw-in adjustment make for a custom fit. Very happy with both that we bought.
Came quickly and I installed it myself without my husband or any tools! We were using a wooden baby gate to keep the dogs out of our living room and away from the front door where they would bark at every passing person or car. It was tacky! This gate is very classy looking and easy to operate. The gate portion swings both ways if you remove the stay. The finish is bronzy brown color. It's beautiful. I am so happy!
We bought this for our back deck to keep the dogs in the yard. We'd previously used a stand-up wooden pet gate, but high winds knocked it down the steps several times and it was looking pretty sorry. This one is now installed across the top of the deck stairs. It looks fantastic and an improvement on the low one we had to step over. The gate opens and closes easily with two hands.
We have two of these now, I love how you can take panels off easily and join multiple gates together. The doors swing either way and lock and unlock easily for adults. We use them as baby gates, dog crates indoor and out, and partitioning off parts of the house we don't want the kids getting into.
The instructions for installation are practically non-existent. Since it's pretty straightforward, this isn't the end of the world. However, know that you need a drill and probably a set of pliers to install the anchor loops. Also know that it's a good idea to install this an inch or more off the floor so it doesn't scrape when you open it: the instructions such as they are don't specify this, but I bought two different styles of gates for two locations, and the other one suggested I do this, and I'm glad I did. Also know that the gate is supposed to be installed with all four anchors (two on each side) attached to solid wood: this is something to check out about your installation location before buying. Although this isn't hard to install, the weakness of the instructions would suggest that someone very new at this might want to seek help beforehand. Once installed, it's easy enough to use, and toddler and dogs seem not to be able to defeat it. It does take some practice to open and close with just one hand.
I LOVE this gate! My friend had one at her house and I fell in love with it and had to order my own. Most gates are large, clunky and such an eye sore. This one slides away when your not using it and is very simple and unobstructive when you are. We have a banister rail on one side instead of a wall, so we were having trouble finding a gate that worked with a post. We were able to just zip tie it directly to the post. It worked perfectly and hasn't given us any problems after well over a year.
These gates are very, very, VERY nice! The only bad thing I can say is that the screws/hardware they include is a joke, the screws weren't even long enough to drill through the drywall....so we replaced them with long 3" screws so that they would hit studs.....with the exception of the original screws this gate is VERY sturdy! I have one at the top of my stairs and one gating off my dining/kitchen area....they are so handy and are soooo much better than any other gates I've tried. They are loud when they click shut, but who cares when you don't even have to try and latch them...it latches like a dream all on its own :) These are great for my dogs (5 lbs and 12lbs....they are tall enough to be great for big dogs too!), and also will be great when we have children!
The gate seems to be very sturdy-- we are using them outside on our deck. They do not always automatically close though and sometimes the bottom does not latch all the way unless you shut it very hard but we are happy with the gates and they seem to do a great job. They also shipped very quickly.
I bought the Carlson Pet Products 24-Inch Extension for Extra Tall Pet Gate to extend the Extra Tall Pet Gate I also purchased. I did not use the one small extension included with gate, but added this 24-Inch to fit a 53 inch wide hallway. Despite what the manufacturer said it fit just fine. So, as an extension it is doing its job and of good quality.
This gate is very sleek and sturdy. It took a bit of time to figure out how to put it up, but I'll admit my husband put one piece on upside down... After that it went much more smoothly. However, ours does not close automatically. It is very secure once closed and our nephew gave up trying to push it down (like the one from another brand in his house) after a few minutes. There is a strange latch on top. You must lift up both small sides and then left the entire gate. It takes 2 seconds and I was able to do it while holding my 6 month old without a problem. However once we get it leveled properly and it closes by itself, perhaps we will not need to lift the gate up. I would definitely recommend this gate because obviously if you aren't the handiest person in the world, and it's not perfectly aligned to close automatically, you can feel secure that the child is not getting through. Another hint...to learn from my hubby's mistake...make sure you really drill 6 inches from the floor. we thought this strange at first because it was obvious a child could squeeze under it (we used my nephew as a guinea pig). But once the door is attached PROPERLY, there is not enough room for a child to fit under. Don't make our mistake of drilling 3 inches above the ground only to then have to take it out and drill as directed.
We've had the opportunity to use and install the KidCo Angle Mount gate and really like it. It's easy to install, especially if you use the installation kit (not included, costs extra). Because of it's design, you can install in a location that doesn't necessarily line up straight - at a bit of an angle for example. This is a really convenient feature, as we've used other gates in the past, and because the studs in the wall don't line up perfectly from one side to the other, we could install it in a bit of an angle. The only thing that we found is that the locking cap came off easily, but I just bent back the locking clip a bit, and it now works perfectly. Also, after a bit of use, the mechanism that prevents the gate from opening in the opposite direction seems to spin a bit. It still holds in place, but with a bit of force can move out of place. We found that our older kids seemed to push it too hard when trying to latch the gate, but after showing them how to lock it properly, we no longer have this problem. What we like most about it, is that it is really light weight, and that it can easily be removed if you need to more space when moving furniture etc. Watch our video review below. (Disclosure: Although we received product for review, TopDaddies was not financially compensated for these reviews)
Sure, it extends the gate so it fits inside a wide doorway opening. But, if for some reason you need to move the gate, the extension falls off right away and it's a little bit of a hassle to put it back together. If you're planning to attach the extension, put it up and leave it alone, you'll be fine.
