I can't imaging not having a doggy door. The flaps need replacing every year from all the use especially with big dogs that run in and out to chase squirrels.
Replaced Johnson/Petsafe with Endura Flap and cannot believe the difference they make. They're well-insulated, and the openings are taller and narrower than the old ones. These take a little more head-push to open than the old ones, but the dogs had no problem figuring them out. If there are stairs where you will install the door, I advise installing it as low as possible without sacrificing the integrity of your door. As your dogs age, it will help them get through the door more easily. I installed the large size for my Golden Retrievers. The only reason I didn't give these 5 stars is because you can only install the locking cover on one side of the door (the inside, if installed correctly). If dogs are locked outside, some may chew on the flap to get in.
The door was easy to install and everything that I needed was including (except the saw). I used a jigsaw on my metal exterior door and had no problems. The door works great, has three differnt pieces to the door, including the two exterior flaps and one interior flap that is thick and keeps the A/C from escaping. My puppy learned how to use the door the first day, and can go in and out all she wants without me having to wonder if she is ready. Would highly recommend this door--especially for the price
I have large 110 pound boxer so I have to use large dog doors which means a large opening for air to escape or come in. I have used other dog doors and the results were not acceptable. This door is expensive but really worth it. Double flaps help keep the wind from blowing and also keep my cat from using the door as we don't like her walking on our cars in the garage. I would buy it again. My 16 year old installed it in our door to the garage so I can't say how difficult it was except that he did a great job!
