Purchased the bed with egg crate foam and returned. Purchased the memory foam bed and my greyhounds LOVE it. I have 2 of these beds & recommend highly!!!!!!
The shredded memory foam pet bed was tightly packaged for distribution and so it was quite compressed when I first removed it from the plastic bag. It quickly expanded to the size described. The dimensions of the large pet bed are 46 inches by 28 inches as indicated and the top measures about 5 inches from the floor when not compacted. Our dog is a very large breed, so I wasn’t certain that this bed would accommodate her. She extends over the edges when she stretches out, but it is adequate for her usual sleep positions and she appears to be comfortable. It is flat, without any ridges, as shown on the advertising materials. The shredded memory foam fill is encased in material that is sewn into four compartments so the memory foam does not bunch up. The outer cover seems sturdy and has a zipper so it can easily be removed for laundering. The top of the cover is soft and suede-like while the fabric on the bottom feels like the outer layer of a sleeping bag. I do not detect any of the odors of the memory foam when the outer cover is on. The colors are neutral and should work well with most color schemes. The shredded memory foam makes the pet bed very flexible. It is simple to fold it up for storage when not in use or to take along for travel. I let my teen-age children try it out when I first brought it home. They campaigned strongly to designate it as the family TV pillow rather than the pet bed. They thought it was comfortable and loved the pliability. We may have to get another one for the humans in the house!
I bought this bed to replace one of the cedar chip ones I got in a big box store that my Am Staff had worn out. My other dog is a 13 year old Newfoundland with arthritis and he has an orthopedic bed, so I thought this bed would be good for him too since it was memory foam. This bed does not feel like it is memory foam and is way less comfortable than the orthopedic one I bought, but with that being said my dogs love this bed and that is the important part. It is still good quality and shipped on time. It is also a good size as it does fit my Newfie comfortably, who is a runt weighing in at 100 pounds.
Much too firm for my 8 lb Chihuahua - he didn't even make a dent in it. It appears that the Memory Foam that works for people or larger animals does not work well for very small animals. It is just too dense. The makers of these beds should quality test these and recognize this, and either use a softer type of Memory Foam for the small beds or simply not produce them in the small size. The bed itself did appear to be well made and of good quality, so I think that if you have a large dog and are ordering this bed in one of the larger sizes it may work well for you.
