This is the second K&H Lectro-Soft Heated Outdoor Bed that I have purchased. They are both in use in our home. Overstock's price is better than the first one purchased elsewhere. Our indoor old lady cat really enjoys these heated beds. They are not hot like heating pads that people use. They are just warm to the touch which is apparently what dogs and cats need. The heat is triggered by the weight of the animal sitting/laying on it. In other words, the bed is not constantly on. When the pet is not sitting on it, the heat goes off. This, obviously, saves on electricity. There has been a definite change in our old lady since she has had her heated bed. She sleeps in a more content and relaxed manner. Her joints seem to be less stiff. These beds are important for outdoor animals sleeping shelters like dog houses, chicken coops and feral cat houses. Highly recommended.
I got these for my clowder as sort of consolation prizes as I had bought a plug-in, heated cat bed for my elderly guy (& of course it's not liked by any of the furry gang...) & unlike that heated bed, these were a big hit!!! They are thin, but soft, made with that plushy-stuffed animal type fur. They are easy to clean & to keep the "fur" from getting matted, I air dry or "fluff" dry (in dryer, no heat). I believe that the "secret" to it being "self-heating" is that there is a sheet of Mylar (a.k.a. space blankets used by paramedics/ambulance crews) that reflects their body heat sewn inside & NO; it doesn't make any noise. These are kitty tested (from those that are 6 weeks old - up to those who are 16 yrs old) & kitty approved!
My kitty who is in a time out on the porch adapted to this bed immediatly and I can tell that it does help retain body heat. Really helpful. She can cuddle in the bed very nicely.
