So far our dog Bear hasn't gone in his new dog house, at east I haven't seen him go in it yet, but it seems to be well made, we did leave the porch off & the extended pat of the roof off, because he has a kennel with a covered canvas top on it, so he won't get wet, & it also had an raised floor so he really doesn't need the porch on the dog house. It is a pretty awesome dog house.
We needed a new dog house because our dog had torn apart the previous one because he was and is a puppy. Our dog is a yellow lab. When we first got the house he would not go in it no matter what we tried. We put his food, water and bones in trying to get him to go inside. He would lay out in the cold and rain curled up in a ball. It was really hard for us to handle. Then we put the cedar chips from the pet store inside and that same night he went inside. Wow....what a relief! Now he loves it! It gets a little water inside on the sides from the rain. We live in Oregon so we get a lot of rain.
Our 90lb Shepherd was using an older TopPaw Dog house. Perfectly suitable for Florida, but when we adopted a 100lb Shepherd we had to get another house. The old TopPaw is no longer produced and we couldn't get just one new dog house - Shepherds are too smart for that - one of them would feel like a second class citizen. So, two news houses were the only answer. We bought these on Sunday and they arrived on Thursday. Easy peasy to snap together (as long as you put the back wall in first). Both dogs are happy, happy, happy. Went right in and lay right down. Then they came out and began gathering their respective toys and storing them in their new houses. Big enough for them to lounge in and tall enough that they can walk in without having to stoop. That's a big plus with the GS breed (protects their hips). Actually they can both fit in one house (and have). When they do it's like a can of dogs - wall to wall. Highly recommend these to anyone wanting a large, comfortable, dog friendly dog house.
Our previous Dog House (bought at a large pet store) always got water in side when it rained. We have had this Dog House for about 6 months and it has Never gotten water inside during storms! I imagine if the wind is really blowing and rain coming down at an angle it would go inside, but with our Old dog house I had to take out the bedding and dry it every time it rained! Our dog didn't want to use this one at first because it was new and not familiar, but my husband threw treats inside it about 3 or 4 times and the next thing I knew our dog loved his new house!
