Although this crate is not the sturdiest it has a very nice look for the price. So far it is holding up, but I can tell that if I do not stay on top of scratches etc it will look old fast. So it is not high quality, but it does the trick and my dog loves it. Everyone who comes in doesn't realize it is a dog crate and compliments me on my new table - and then they are really surprised it is a dog crate! Best price I could find- and the original one I bought was defective so Overstock quickly took it back, issued me a $15. store credit for my trouble, and then honored the original sale that was not longer running. Great experience.
Through the years, I have attempted to train Summer as a house cat; however, he has resisted all of my efforts. I've had him neutered, front claws removed and he's been allowed to move through the house. In the past, I would leave the window sills open so that he could get the early, middle-of-the-day and evening sun. Summer continued to spray his scent in different areas upstairs, so I confined him to the basement area. He started to spray on my upholstered barstools and other cushions, so I confined him to the laundry area. Recently, I was going to get some work done in the basement and saw the pet cage on sale. I purchased the mid-sized cage. It arrived after the initial work was started, but I was able to put it together in time for the major work in the basement area. Summer's mid-sized cage has resolved my issues. He won't go to "potty" while in his cage and eats his dry food and drinks his water while inside. The cage even has a divider in the event a person may have two small to mid-sized animals to contain. This is one of the best purchases that I've ever made!
I did not want my dog living in Alcatraz. Every crate I saw looked like the space a prisoner uses when they are locked away and have rec time. I have a, 1,100 sq ft apartment (not too small, but not big enough to have an ugly eyesore as a perm piece). The crate was going in my bedroom--I needed something that would be attractive AND useful. The top is sturdy and can handle books, plants....unless your dog is nuts in the crate and is whacking the top....I think it's okay to put goods on there. Really enhanced my room---and I feel good that my dog is going to have a lovely crate to chill out in. It's a lot of money---but if you are going to have the crate for a decade or so---it really is worth owning something nice. My dog is a dutch sheepdog---will weigh 42lbs---I'd say he's the size of a Springer Spaniel. The medium would have been too tight a fit. This is NOT made of genuine wood---think Ikea (if they block the brand name think of the massive superstore from the Netherlands that has a blue and gold theme) wood. So it chips and scratches if you are not careful. Mine arrived dented and scratched---Overstock was lovely and has dispatched a new top, sans charge. If you take the wood away from the crate (it's easy to set up--but not meant to be assembled and reassembled) it has a collapsable cage. If you want to do this once in a while, cool. But, this is not a portable crate. This is meant to stay in one neck of the woods in your home. I looked on other sites and the prices were more expensive for the same piece---what makes this the sell from Overstock specifically is the base shipping no matter the weight and the lack of sales tax. That's where you will save--some sites wanted 60plus dollars just for shipping and CA has a 10% sales tax. Enjoy....I think my dog will ;)
I absolutely love the look of these crates. I wanted something decorative that looked like furniture for my dogs, and after searching and looking at literally hundreds of crates on different sites, I got 2 of these. I was hesitant at first because of the price. I had found ones similar that I liked for less and the price on these is high. I would say they are pretty much worth it, but I waited until Overstock dropped the price to $*** per crate, and then I also used a $40 off coupon. So if you really want these wait for a sale on them because they are not worth $200+ per crate. I read the dimensions before purchasing, and I guess the picture with the golden retriever inside should have tipped me off, but these are WAY bigger than I expected. I have 2 7-10 pound dogs and these are huge for them, but I still like them, just roomier than expected. I just didn't expect them to be so deep and stick out so much from the wall. The wood is decent quality. One of my dogs has already completely chewed the inside of the crate so I'm going to have to sand and re-stain it. I wish the quality was a little better and more durable since these are for animals. Overall I give it a 4/5 stars because I am happy with them and they are exactly the look I was going for.
