We ordered the x-large, light grey crate for our 80lb+ chocolate lab. We were worried there would not be enough room for her to move around, but there is plenty. She can comfortably lay down and stretch-out. However, it may be tight for a dog any larger than her. We have two dogs, and in a pinch can put both in the crate for a short while. Now that I know the x-large can fit our “Big Lady” we are going to order another, in size large, for our other dog. Considering the size of the crate, it was surprisingly not too heavy. Once my husband easily constructed it, I was able to move it around between rooms, before we found a good spot for it. Due to the size of an x-large crate, it is a bit tall. It makes a great end table for a couch, or in the corner of a room, to place magazines or a lamp on top. I imagine the large size crate would be ideal for in-between living room chairs. After using the crate for a couple of weeks, it is evident the floor of the crate will become scratched from our dog’s nails. However, we purchased a nice cushion/ crate mat that eliminated this. That being said, the crates’ benefits far out-weigh the one negative. After using metal and plastic crates for years, I’m now a fan of the wood construction that fits within my homes décor. We bought this crate to train our Aussie puppy, and it's perfect for that, and for housing any puppy. It's also great for housing any larger dog that doesn't TRY to tear it up. It's roomy and sturdy. The double door is convenient. The double METAL latches are perfect (no breaking like plastic latches). It was easy to assemble. And the price was the best we've found for a quality crate. We definitely would recommend this to friends. ... We suspect that most negative reviews of this crate stem from inexperience and/or unreasonable expectations. This crate shouldn't be used to forcibly contain a strong, aggressive, and/or large untrained dog. It's not meant for that. Nor is it meant for moving it around while a larger dog is inside. If you need those kinds of containment, expect to pay lots more money for rated-strength materials and construction. But for its intended purpose -- training a puppy, and housing kennel-trained puppies and dogs, this crate is wonderful. 2/14/2017 - Second Crate, Second Review: I bought a second, purportedly identical crate 5 weeks after the first, and the 2nd one is disappointingly different from the 1st. Same name, item #, and description. But the second one is made from smaller, flimsier wire, and the latches are smaller, flimsier, and without the securing hook on the end. I have contacted Customer Service, describing the problem and asking if, in returning the flimsy crate, I can be assured of receiving in exchange a crate identical to the sturdy one I ordered in December. Stay tuned for further developments.
