This stapler is a good stapler, but the reason for the 3 stars is that the staples seem to be the issue since they have been outsourced overseas. In my forum, everyone is starting to go to the DUAX stapler and we found the DUAX staples work flawlessly in this stapler. So, it's not the stapler that has problems it's the staples. Swingline warranty is fabulous, so if they want people to stay with the product they really need to look into the staple issue. My 2 cents.
Use the specified high-capacity staples #35550 and know that it loads differently from most! Unlike many desktop staplers, this one does NOT have a piece of metal inside, on which the staples are straddled as they slide along. This model doesn't require that piece. The staples just balance inside the bay where they are stored and don't have to "ride" along anything. It helps to label the stapler with a reminder to use the specific staples. It is marked on the stapler, but isn't obvious.
This has always been my stapler of choice. As a school teacher, I have experimented with many different types of staplers. Other staplers have failed to meet the stability test. My staplers have been dropped, mishandled, and misused, but only Swingline's Classic Stapler was able to stand the test of time. Other staplers shatter and break apart upon contact with the floor, but you can just pick up the Classic Swingline, brush it off, and keep on stapling!
