  • Great price for sturdy shelves

I was trying to avoid buying cheap particle board or composite wood shelves so this shelving unit fit the bill for affordability and good material. The only disappointment is the cardboard back for the shelves, which isn't a nice long lasting material.

  • Perfect bookcase
    Verified Purchase

My husband recently finished the last space in our home. It is a combination re-loading area and work shop with all his tools. He has so many books and we had no place for them. He placed it in the middle of the floor. Bought him the bookcase for Christmas and he liked it so well he wanted another to put back to back. Very easy to assemble and very well made. Suits the purpose. Using the second one for storage boxes. Tidy and love the fact that it is painted and matches the color of the room.

I purchased this "metal" bookcase, for my home office, thinking that with metal shelves, I would not have to worry about "sagging" shelves,, down the road. Well, after putting it together, with it's cardboard back (instead of metal), it is a bit jiggly and I believe there will be sagging, in the future. PROS: Price; Easy to assemble -- Can use a Phillips screwdriver, or drill. Flashlight comes in handy, for looking for the screw holes.. CONS: 1) The " Top Panel" and "Side Panels" do not fit snug into the plastic "Corner Connectors", causing the side panels to stick out a bit, and I believe in time, the top, will also sag, if any significant weight, is put on it. (This is the top of the bookcase, which is most visible, and these three panels do not completely connect to the corners..) 2) Hate the cardboard back panel. First because: a) it looks cheap, b) offers no real stability, to the bookcase, or the shelves, because a plastic pin is used, to hold the center, of the shelf, and c) the unused middle holes, stick out like a sore thumb. Notes: 1) When assembling -- before you attach the bottom shelf, place the two "center shelves" roughly were you want them, instead of waiting until Step 5, or you will end up scratching the insides, of the bookcase, trying to position them. 2) Step 4, you actually use eight (8) screws, to attach the bottom. 3) For safety, if young children will be anywhere near this bookcase, I would highly recommend attaching it, to the wall studs, so that it does not tip over. 4) I placed felt pads on the backside four corners, so the wall would not get scuffed up. Now, why would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. It is not a bad piece, though there is a lot of room for improvement -- that Safco can make -- and, I would start with replacing the cardboard back panel, with metal. If, like me, you just want to store books, supplies, etc., it's worth it, and the prices are comparable. I will end with this -- Manufacturers -- Quit cutting corners on materials, and quality and reputation will follow.
