This desk and shelf fit the purpose for my tween daughter's room. It took a fair amount of time to assemble to both. The backing on these is like a thin piece of press board...hoping it will last. Lastly, the cubby unit on the desk is a great idea with plenty of storage but it takes up a fair amount of the desk space. We may need to raise it and secure to the wall about 6" above the desk so my daughter has more room for her books and laptop. Shouldn't be a problem though because it is not attached to the desk. Shelving unit does not have backing so if you are loading it up with books, it should be up against the wall.
The storage cabinet was very sturdy and relatively easy to assemble. The only thing I'm not pleased with is that the doors are not even - there is a gap between the top of the right door and the the top of the cabinet. We took the door off thinking this could be adjusted but it could not be easily fixed. Everything else about the cabinet is good quality. The gap in the door bothers me. Plus - there was only one key with the cabinet and I think there should have been two.
I ordered this desk on Tuesday and it was delivered Friday in six boxes. Have a helper, as this desk is big and heavy. Assembly was easy. Quality is magnificent- solid wood, smooth surface, the wood veneer is gorgeous and seems resistant to scratces (my cat's claws usually ruin everything). There is plenty of legroom below. Filing drawers- flimsy hanging folders do not do well, as they stick. I had to buy high quality hanging folders, and the hooks actually slide along the wood outside the rail. The file cabinets have a lock and key. This desk is worth the money.
