I had searched high and low for a good quality computer desk that would fit into a small space in my new home. It needed to have space for a cpu and have drawers on the other side as well as a sliding keyboard tray so that the surface could still be used as a writing desk. This desk does all of that. It is dark brown so it matches the dark brown furniture in my den. It is surprisingly sturdy. It did come in pieces and had to be put together but that was a small price to pay. I had looked at many desks both in stores and online for much more money and none had what this offered me. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it highly to anyone.
I bought this desk in 2006! Four years and three moves later it is still as sturdy as the day we put it together!
I would recommend it to anyone. For our last move, my husband had to throw it out the window on the lawn cause he couldn't get it out the door, it still holds together strong! I am now writing this review while sitting at it...The only wear you can see on it is scratches because we moved so many times, however, I actually like the way it looks all weathered and cozy now! But if you want it to keep looking mint, nothing a little black paint won't fix. Great buy for a hundred bucks.
I had been searching for a nice desk to go in my new home office and ran across this one. Read all the reviews and decided to go with it. It is a long assembly process, but with enough time and patience, it's worth the end result. Only downside for me was that some of the screws seemed to be cheaply made because as I was drilling some in, they would break off about halfway in place, thankfully that didn't happen very much and not in areas that really depended on it. I would definitely recommend this desk!
We recently moved and had to downsize, so I purchased this desk for my computer. My hubby was able to assemble it easily. There is space for the desktop computer and I can put my printer on the lower shelf. It is solid and good deal for the price!
I wanted to create a makeup vanity and came up with the idea of using a writing desk. I am a "thick girl", so the ready-made vanities are just not the right size. When I saw this desk, it was one of the weekly deals. The color, style and price (under $125) were just right so I ordered it. The shipping time and delivery took only 4 days which included the weekend with the box in excellent condition. Assembly was not difficult and took maybe a couple of hours. I thought the drawer knobs were boring so I got more decorative aqua colored glass ones and now my desk/vanity is perfect! I have more than enough room for my legs and the desktop provides ample space for all my makeup, hair products, jewelry, perfume, etc. I'm so happy with my purchase!
Was a little apprehensive about spending this much on furniture without seeing it in person , but this is a really nice set of office furniture. It is very heavy, good quality and no doubt will last a long time. The drawers slide open easily and you can tell it is made of high quality. The directions were straightforward and easy to follow. The only negative is that it was challenging to put the book case together at times, but that wouldn't prevent me from buying it. I would have paid extra to have someone do it as part of the delivery (wish Overstock offered that). We've gotten a number of compliments on the furniture already and I'd purchase again without hesitation.
Desk looks just like the picture and is sturdy. Ours came with a faulty part which was replaced promptly. It is a good solid product and priced reasonably. the only complaint is that the frame scratches fairly easily. But once it's up and being used it is designed so that you won't really have a need to touch the frame anyway.
Colors are nice. Particle board is a little thin, and makes me feel a little like a peasant sitting at the desk. But if you're not to picky about that, then it's pretty much what you pay for. Very very easy to assemble.
It looks good. It does not have the feel of real wood, and I knew it was laminate when I ordered it. I am using it as an accent table...really just to fill a space...so it's great for that. If you are looking for a desk that needs to function as a desk, this may not be the one for you.
Arrived on time. Put together fairly easily and looks really nice. Only drawback is the back of the large filing cabinet is cheap black cardboard. Would have been nicer if it had the finished press board like the small rolling cabinet.
I had been using a corner desk for years that was just falling apart. I wanted a desk this time that was solid and didn't look like it would fall apart at the slightest touch. The desktop alone is thick and solid. Assembly was actually pretty easy. Lots of storage, and I bought an adjustable keyboard tray for underneath, cause it doesn't come with one. The desk is long too... lots of surface space. It's a great desk, and I'm going to keep this one for years.
Just received the desk for my home office yesterday. Extremely well packed, a big plus, no damage. As I have found with most projects I have ordered on-line the instructions were very poor, probably a 2 on a scale of 5. After some work, I was able to put the desk together in approximately 3-4 hrs… Once together the frustration abates and the desk is now functional and I am glad I purchased this unit.
As described, built well, perfect for my needs. Only negative deserving 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that no screws or washers were included to assemble. I couldn't wait to use the desk so we went to buy the appropriate items at a local hardware store...still waiting for the parts to be shipped and arrive to switch out.
The desk seems sturdy, my only complaint is that the pull-out shelf where the keyboard sits is kind of low, when you pull it out it is pretty much on your lap. This is annoying to me because I like to sit with my legs crossed or criss-crossed in the chair and I cannot, even with my chair on the lowest setting. I got the black and it looks very sharp and expensive.
They only had the black one available; looks nice & sleek, pretty easy to assemble, but the drawers are TINY! I wish they could have combined 2 of them to make at least 1 large one, but they're all 3 very small! Good for small items. Looks good in our house though!
This desk fits perfect in my home. It is enough space for my printer, monitor, keyboard, speakers and phone. It is very stylish too! It took my husband and I a couple of hours of together time to set up. I am happy. My only concern is that the corner is getting hit a lot from my chair. So now we are mindful.
The instructions were easy to follow. Desk looks really nice. Did it myself and it took a couple of hours. I really don't like the allen wrench tools and the hardware that can only be used with the allen wrench. It's short and the holes are snug so it really wears on your fingers until they're raw. I think they need to go to a more common phillips head or regular flathead screw. This will allow for drills to be used which would increase this rating to a 5th star.
I was hesitant to order this desk because I find that, like with many furniture purchases, it is best to sit or interact with it in person to ensure it feels right, especially if you'll be using it every day like my husband and I do. I was extremely pleased to see that it fulfilled all of my expectations and over the past few weeks has been a god-send for us to work overtime from home.
The desk has an open storage concept, for which I had some lovely vintage flat files that I wanted to emphasize by placing them on the shelves. The desktop is large enough that I can fit our 27" iMac computer, a flat printer/scanner, a stack of books, and a cluster of desk accessories on top and still not feel overwhelmed.
The veneer wood has a lovely oak brown finish and looks natural and feels smooth to the touch. My husband assembled it alone in about 15 minutes so that when I returned from my walk it was done! With the affordable price, quality, and cool Industrial style, this desk is a perfect fit for us. I highly recommend it!
I began looking for desks as we were redoing our home office. We have a dedicated office, double door entrance, and it is nearly 10x10. Not a huge room, but because it is a designated office and not sharing space for anything else, I wanted to put a large desk in there. I always go to Costco.com first...and I used to say, "if you can buy it at Costco, you can't get it anywhere else for less." I was wrong.
I really loved the two tone color of this desk. Because I have a tray ceiling with ceiling fan that is made out of honey oak, in addition to honey oak floors, the light colored surface on this desk was just what I wanted. I first saw this on Costco's website, but it was called "Merrick." I found that odd because when I started searching online, I kept on seeing "Manhattan" as the name of this model. I called the manufacturer and was very pleased with her knowledge. She confirmed that Costco was selling the "Manhattan" and that they often buy lots of items and rename them, which they did in this case. Okay, so I knew that it was the same--now I just had to start doing some price comparison. Costco sold the desk for $***. Even though it was free shipping, there was tax. Bottom line, I got the same desk from Overstock for over $*** less than if I had purchased it at Costco.
It arrived about 7-10 days from the day I ordered it. They called our house and set up a time/date that my husband would be home for the shipment. I already knew it was over 400 pounds and that it would be in the garage and I would probably build it slowly...piece by piece.
Well, it was built in about a day and a half. I enjoyed putting it together, although my kitty-cat kept on trying to sneak pieces out of the room! Sneaky girl. Anyway, every time the instruction indicated two people, I would call my husband up and he would help me do whatever step I was on...and if it shows two people--trust me, YOU NEED two people, I don't care how strong and/or coordinated you may think you are....that's not relevant.
There was a small hiccup near the end. Because there are a few options for the "bridge," there were no holes drilled for the support beam that connects to either side of the desk. So other than husband having to drill a few holes on either side for that, it was super easy to assembly.
I did buy the pencil drawer that goes under the desk. I'm so glad I did....I ended up finding it on Office Depot for half the cost on Bestar's website. I found a lot of drawers that would fit that were 1" deep--but I really wanted the 2" deep drawer and it is perfect.
There was a slight defect in one of the doors (#61)...almost as if water had gotten to it awhile back and the compressed wood was starting to separate. After I was finished, I contacted Bestar and they shipped out one immediately for no cost.
Also, the area underneath the desk is HUGE. I have a little stand that I used to have my printer on under there. It fits PERFECT in the corner and you can't even see it and it is so far away from your legs you never bump into it (big area under there!). I have one of those metal in baskets that have about six slots and I have my extra ink cartridges, envelopes, a few cords for various devices.
One thing to mention while you are building your desk. BE CAREFUL with the pieces. I don't know exactly what this is made out of but it does scratch. You have to be mindful of this and only set it down on blankets and such, but it will scratch. Why the company doesn't send a crayon stick with the desk is beyond me, but I asked for one when I requested the replacement door. Oddly enough, there must be a shortage because I got a crayon about the size of 1/6 of a regular sized crayon! But it was all I needed so I guess they know what they are doing.
I am so glad I took a chance and ordered this desk....I absolutely love it and I couldn't imagine anything else in my office.
Was looking for a desk that doesn't overpower a room, as our 'office' is a converted/small bedroom. The depth in particular is all you need in the age of computer flat screens and keyboard trays.
One major gripe though is the packaging. All 138 pounds of this product came in a single box that made it difficult to handle. Guessing that's also why the box was so heavily damaged. I had three damaged pieces, though was able to hide the damage so didn't order replacement parts.
Instructions are typical "visual only", lacking any helpful guidelines. Still, was typical cam locks, dowels, small screws and nails so if you've assembled furniture previously you'll not have any problem.
Let me start by getting the only negative part out of the way. The shipment came via freight in a total of 5 boxes. 1 box for the book case, 1 for the filing cabinet and the other 3 for the u-shaped desk and hutch. The negative part, 4 pieces of the hutch arrived damaged. You couldn't tell from the packaging they would be damaged. In fact everything was packaged really well.
The great part about the damaged pieces was how easy it was to get them replaced. I called Bestar customer service and it took only minutes to get the 4 new pieces on the way to my house. The have great customer service. All replacement pieces arrived a couple days and they were not damaged.
Now, to the assembly. I built the filing cabinet first, by myself, and it took me about 3 hours. Seems like a long time but I cleaned each piece before preparing it for assembly. It was relatively easy to build. The instructions are mostly clear, you just have to pay attention to the detail of the drawings and make sure to read each section with words. Places in the instructions that look like headers are probably valuable information to the build.
Following the completion of the filing cabinet I built the bookshelf. Also by myself until the very end. Nailing in the back panel was too difficult to do alone. Holding the panel, nails and swinging a hammer all at once is a complicated task. All in all it took me 2 hours to complete the bookshelf. This included the time I spent cleaning each piece.
The assembly of the l-shaped portion of the desk (credenza and inner-connect) didn't seem to take long at all. Simply cleaning each piece, placing hardware and assembling. I don't know how long it took but I would say about 2.5 hours. There are three drawers to assemble and they take time Assembling the outer part of the desk took less time, maybe 1.5 hours. Did most of this by myself, but assembled with a second person. Pieces are quite large and need to be held steady when securing everything together.
Putting the hutch together was an easy but tedious task. Cleaning each piece, preparing doors and assembling was done mainly with 2 people and it took at least two hours. The hutch was quite heavy. Although getting it assembled to the top of desk was easy (two turns of a screw driver) it was difficult lifting it up and setting it in the right place. This is partially due to a lack of leverage when the desk is pushed into a corner leaving little room on one side to really lift the hutch.
Now with everything put together it looks really, really nice. More than happy to have paid the money for all of it. The quality of this product in my opinion was more superior than expecting comparing it to other desks I have purchased in the past. It is big, I like the room. Plenty of space between the credenza and the desk. Also, the piece that connects them does not leave you lack space like other desks do. It is not a shallow depth in comparison to some of the others.
