Once I figured out how to sync it the controller works perfectly. I LOVE the charge kit part, it's brilliant. Recharging can happen anywhere which is convenient. The sync for the controller was confusing to me. I thought the controller was broken, it wasn't. It just kept slow blinking. I finally figured out that I had to tell the XBOX and the controller to be in search mode or something to sync up with each other. There's a button I couldn't see on the side of the xbox you have to push and a button on the controller you push for them to find each other. Once you do that a few times it figures it all out and everything is gold. Apparently I didn't quite find the pictograms instructional enough and I hit the web to find the proper answer. Once I figured it out the controller and the charger are solid and I love it.
This is a beautiful desk. I'm very happy with the appearance and the construction is solid. I would not buy a large item again from Overstock. It was delivered by a company called YRC. They called and told me it would come on a "semi" and verified such a vehicle would be able to access my street because I live on a lane. So on the day of my delivery, the truck arrives and the driver asks where I want the parcel. I requested to place it just inside the front door. Apparently YRC can't deliver inside homes due to "legal reasons" It was about to rain and I told him I wouldn't accept the delivery if it was left outside as this desk is HEAVY!!! He could put it inside the attached garage just not the front door. Unacceptable service for such an expensive piece of furniture.
Very sturdy and attractive. Lots of space. It is very heavy, had to open the box in the garage and carry pieces individually. Would have preferred a drawer unit rather than open cabinet, but not a big deal.
I began looking for desks as we were redoing our home office. We have a dedicated office, double door entrance, and it is nearly 10x10. Not a huge room, but because it is a designated office and not sharing space for anything else, I wanted to put a large desk in there. I always go to Costco.com first...and I used to say, "if you can buy it at Costco, you can't get it anywhere else for less." I was wrong.
I really loved the two tone color of this desk. Because I have a tray ceiling with ceiling fan that is made out of honey oak, in addition to honey oak floors, the light colored surface on this desk was just what I wanted. I first saw this on Costco's website, but it was called "Merrick." I found that odd because when I started searching online, I kept on seeing "Manhattan" as the name of this model. I called the manufacturer and was very pleased with her knowledge. She confirmed that Costco was selling the "Manhattan" and that they often buy lots of items and rename them, which they did in this case. Okay, so I knew that it was the same--now I just had to start doing some price comparison. Costco sold the desk for $***. Even though it was free shipping, there was tax. Bottom line, I got the same desk from Overstock for over $*** less than if I had purchased it at Costco.
It arrived about 7-10 days from the day I ordered it. They called our house and set up a time/date that my husband would be home for the shipment. I already knew it was over 400 pounds and that it would be in the garage and I would probably build it slowly...piece by piece.
Well, it was built in about a day and a half. I enjoyed putting it together, although my kitty-cat kept on trying to sneak pieces out of the room! Sneaky girl. Anyway, every time the instruction indicated two people, I would call my husband up and he would help me do whatever step I was on...and if it shows two people--trust me, YOU NEED two people, I don't care how strong and/or coordinated you may think you are....that's not relevant.
There was a small hiccup near the end. Because there are a few options for the "bridge," there were no holes drilled for the support beam that connects to either side of the desk. So other than husband having to drill a few holes on either side for that, it was super easy to assembly.
I did buy the pencil drawer that goes under the desk. I'm so glad I did....I ended up finding it on Office Depot for half the cost on Bestar's website. I found a lot of drawers that would fit that were 1" deep--but I really wanted the 2" deep drawer and it is perfect.
There was a slight defect in one of the doors (#61)...almost as if water had gotten to it awhile back and the compressed wood was starting to separate. After I was finished, I contacted Bestar and they shipped out one immediately for no cost.
Also, the area underneath the desk is HUGE. I have a little stand that I used to have my printer on under there. It fits PERFECT in the corner and you can't even see it and it is so far away from your legs you never bump into it (big area under there!). I have one of those metal in baskets that have about six slots and I have my extra ink cartridges, envelopes, a few cords for various devices.
One thing to mention while you are building your desk. BE CAREFUL with the pieces. I don't know exactly what this is made out of but it does scratch. You have to be mindful of this and only set it down on blankets and such, but it will scratch. Why the company doesn't send a crayon stick with the desk is beyond me, but I asked for one when I requested the replacement door. Oddly enough, there must be a shortage because I got a crayon about the size of 1/6 of a regular sized crayon! But it was all I needed so I guess they know what they are doing.
I am so glad I took a chance and ordered this desk....I absolutely love it and I couldn't imagine anything else in my office.
This desk fit perfectly in our small 10 x 9 ft office with plenty of room around it. Lots of available workspace on the desk itself and I love how clients can scoot in under the desk on their side when signing documents.
I gave this 4 stars because of the delivery. The first cabinet arrived via Fedex severely damaged. When it was replaced I received a different version in one box and the doors in another. Together they made this product but it took communicating with Overstock to finally understand what I had. This piece is heavy and packaged tight so I didn't want to open everything to find out it was the wrong item entirely. The 2nd carton was damaged also (Fedex) but luckily with the exception of a few chips it was in good shape. The chips weren't on the exterior. Overstock was amazing through the entire frustrating process. I replaced the top with a piece of granite, replaced the cabinet pulls and feet to create a more elegant piece. I use this piece in my side door entry way. The most creative part is that I use this as a Kitty cabinet. I had a hole cut out on the side in the shape of a cat and his litter box is inside.
Yes, it was a little tricky to put together. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and reference your part numbers on the box they came in. The parts came in nicely and packaged very well. Came in sooner than expected!
Overall, I am very pleased with my new office desk. The quality and look of the desk is professional, sturdy, well worth the money and well made. It is attractive and very functional. My only negative comment about the desk is you can't put anything on top of your hutch since the hinged drawer does not go inside the desk but instead, over the top. Anything on top will be pushed to the back or off the desk all together. I would recommend this desk to anyone.
Please be careful ordering the desk you want. This model comes in two colors - sandstone & slate (white and gray) and bordeaux and slate (red and gray). The website shows the names switched. When I ordered the desk, I thought I was ordering the bordeaux and slate. When the desk came in, I got sandstone and slate. Needless to say, I was not happy. We had already opened one of the 5 boxes when we realized the wrong desk was delivered. It had to be returned and a new desk shipped out. In the meantime, I had already given my old desk to a co-worker and I had to use a card table until the new desk came in. I alerted Overstock that the website names was wrong but it is still showing the wrong name. Remember...I warned you.
Let me start by getting the only negative part out of the way. The shipment came via freight in a total of 5 boxes. 1 box for the book case, 1 for the filing cabinet and the other 3 for the u-shaped desk and hutch. The negative part, 4 pieces of the hutch arrived damaged. You couldn't tell from the packaging they would be damaged. In fact everything was packaged really well.
The great part about the damaged pieces was how easy it was to get them replaced. I called Bestar customer service and it took only minutes to get the 4 new pieces on the way to my house. The have great customer service. All replacement pieces arrived a couple days and they were not damaged.
Now, to the assembly. I built the filing cabinet first, by myself, and it took me about 3 hours. Seems like a long time but I cleaned each piece before preparing it for assembly. It was relatively easy to build. The instructions are mostly clear, you just have to pay attention to the detail of the drawings and make sure to read each section with words. Places in the instructions that look like headers are probably valuable information to the build.
Following the completion of the filing cabinet I built the bookshelf. Also by myself until the very end. Nailing in the back panel was too difficult to do alone. Holding the panel, nails and swinging a hammer all at once is a complicated task. All in all it took me 2 hours to complete the bookshelf. This included the time I spent cleaning each piece.
The assembly of the l-shaped portion of the desk (credenza and inner-connect) didn't seem to take long at all. Simply cleaning each piece, placing hardware and assembling. I don't know how long it took but I would say about 2.5 hours. There are three drawers to assemble and they take time Assembling the outer part of the desk took less time, maybe 1.5 hours. Did most of this by myself, but assembled with a second person. Pieces are quite large and need to be held steady when securing everything together.
Putting the hutch together was an easy but tedious task. Cleaning each piece, preparing doors and assembling was done mainly with 2 people and it took at least two hours. The hutch was quite heavy. Although getting it assembled to the top of desk was easy (two turns of a screw driver) it was difficult lifting it up and setting it in the right place. This is partially due to a lack of leverage when the desk is pushed into a corner leaving little room on one side to really lift the hutch.
Now with everything put together it looks really, really nice. More than happy to have paid the money for all of it. The quality of this product in my opinion was more superior than expecting comparing it to other desks I have purchased in the past. It is big, I like the room. Plenty of space between the credenza and the desk. Also, the piece that connects them does not leave you lack space like other desks do. It is not a shallow depth in comparison to some of the others.
Order in advance, as the lead time was a while. Came to us by freight carrier with out warning. Luckily I was close, and available to run right over. If your a little scared of putting things together this may be a bit challenging. Not for the faint of heart. I got two so I had to put them together myself. Overwhelming at time even with an engineering mindset. Do yourself a favor and map out which side you want the bridge to go on beforehand and paper clip closed the directions to the exact pages needed. I did this on second go around it was much smoother that way. But, it's not rocket science either.
Overall, if you need a good desk for the cash. It's a good one.
I now have purchased 12 Bestar Prestige L shaped desk units and have been very happy with the price and finish. The previous purchase of 8 desks 6 years ago are still in use and standing up to use and some abuse. I would defintely buy them again as they are a very good value.
I purchased this for my granddaughter who was in college at Auburn University. It took us both working the better part of a day to get it all assembled correctly. After we got it done we were very pleased with the outcome.
It is a nice piece of furniture, good looking and of high quality. She turned a spare bedroom into a very nice office where she can study and do her household bookkeeping.
Delivery of workstation was in rainy day, so boxes happened to be wet. Unfortunately, workstation was made from particle board not only extremely heavy, but unstable to moisture, so at assembly I have mentioned that shape fo some boards have changed (swollen). That is why assembly was problematic and result was not absolutely nice. But I was able to assemble it completely somehow and it works properly as workstation of high school student.
It is very sturdy and looks great!
The holes for the wiring don't make sense, on the top surfaces they are on the outside of the privacy skirt, they should be on the inside so you don't have cables running back and forth and showing.
The instructions were a bit complicated, each section of the desk came with it's own instructions and wen you moved on to the next part you had to remove pieces that you were told to add in the previous part??? I know they do that because not everyone purchases the complete set but it's a pain. There were also no predrilled holes for the return.
There was a snafu getting all the parts to this desk. Once I connected with Customer Service I got the missing part within 2 days. Great service from that O'Stock department!!!
This desk more than meets our needs-once it was put together. I had to hire a handyman to do it after I just lost patience with the instructions. He had to get a buddy in to help him lift the desktop into place.
The overhang on the top allows customers leg room, and my staff has plenty of leg room even with the pull-out for the computer keyboard. The locking file drawer is great. Its large desktop allows for generous "spread-out room."
It's a good Bordeaux wine color with a medium grey accent. Quite a modern look.
