I purchased this for the garment bag. But I don't know that I actually need it given the size of the bag. It is much larger than expected. However, I purposely purchased this bag because it reached the maximum dimension for a carryon on most carriers. The garment bag does zip out which is a good option. I used it once. It kept my clothes fine. I was using it more to ensure the dress for a wedding has some protection. I like it as a regular carryon without the garment bag. I have used it for two road trips and a flight on Southwest from DCA-STL-MCI with no problems. I was able to pack quite a bit without expanding it. I was concerned given how much it holds. It looked real fat and would not have fit in the sizer at the gate and ticket counter (but whose carryon actually does?) And when I put it in the overhead it seemed to stick out. But it fit in the overhead easily and there was no problem with the door closing. There was still some clearance, so I think you could use the expansion and be fine. It seems sturdy. This is my first hybrid bag. It's not as hard a case as I thought which is good in terms of having some give. I like that you can really pack two haves and keep clothes separated. There are two front pockets and one will easily hold a laptop. Empty, I was concerned about its weight, but it rolled easy through the airport and was light enough to lift. It has a bar on the bottom so that helps with lifting. And it never tipped over when standing upright. The material seems to be holding up, but I expect my luggage to take a beating. I am not expecting this to last for 20 years with regular use. Unless you are spending over $@#! for a carryon, I think quality wise there really is not a difference between this price point and a $!@# carry on, other than the name.
We've used this luggage once so far for a direct flight and a cruise. The airlines left some marks on the cases but it came off easily with ArmorAll. (Probably the reason most people get dark luggage.) There was a small nick in the handle and one of the wheels after the vacation but I think this luggage performed well. My husband especially liked the spinner wheels on the 2 larger pieces. He was able to push the bags and didn't have to try to link them together. My only complaint is that when it first arrived, I should have opened it sooner to let it air out. I was worried our clothes would smell like the plastic but they didn't. Otherwise, we are very happy with it. We even packed 2 bottles of wine in the checked bag and it arrived OK. We'll see how it does when we have a flight with connections.
Bag came with tags and had it's original plastic bag. I have owned this bag for more then a week. This is my everyday bag and it's very sturdy. And It stays structured. It has the main zipper compartment and then it has a small zipper compartment in the front. There is no zippers or pockets in the main compartment, but that does not bother me, since I only carry my 5.5 Phone, small wallet, sunglasses carrier and a little zipper bag. And it still has a lot of room for more. The inside has black Star Wars logo print. The front zipper I put my keys inside. And the sides pockets, I was able to fit a iPhone SE with Apple case. But I do not see how a water bottle can fit in the side pockets. A iPad mini can fit perfectly inside the bag. Also a iPad 9.7 can fit to, but pokes through at the bottom of the bag. Unlike the similar Loungefly BB-8 Mini Backpack, that the straps are stiff and rigid, this Rey version is not stiff or rigid. The straps are a soft like leather feel and it molds to your shoulder when you wear it. I do not have any complaints. Overall I highly recommend this backpack to family and friends, that not only want a good sturdy backpack, but also likes Star Wars.
