My day book fits perfectly in the zipper pocket under the latch, checkbook in the zipper on the flap. Sun-glass case fits nicely in the zipper on the back and all that small gear under the flap which has another zipper for safety can be found easily. Good leather, great value, I've seen equal bags for a hundred dollars more.
Ordered in black. Good, plain bag. Everest logo tab (like a Levi's red tab) is unobtrusive. One big compartment easily fits an 8.5"x11" pad in a leather case. Zippered inside pocket is bigger than expected. Two pockets under the flap are roomy, but have no closures; I'll likely added Velcro or a snap. The main flap has Velcro strips mated to the underflap pockets and two elastic straps on the outside that lie flat. From strap to strap, the bag stretches about 20" across and fits in a lap on the bus. At either end is a narrow pocket for umbrella or water bottle, each with snaps. The strap has brass fittings to the bag (which also has a grommet on either end) and is easily adjusted for tight or loose fitting, as desired. Plain broad webbing lies flat on the shoulder. Great bag for public transit, for stowing winter layers while in the office, or as a book bag. Dried very quickly from light rain & snow; damp surface, didn't get soaked through. A rock-hunting friend wants one for working afield.
This is a beautiful bag. The leather is high quality, the magnet holds the front flap down well, there are lots of little pockets: I really like this bag a lot. My netbook fits right in it with extra room. However, most textbooks don't fit well (in case you were thinking about it for that) and that includes regular size notebooks. It's really more like a big purse than a small messenger bag. That said, it is super sturdy, very attractive, and I highly recommend it.
