I love this luggage set...I bought the purple set and love the fact that I can spot it anywhere, especially with so many similar bags in the airport. I was able to write on the outer shell of the luggage...plastic and durable. I have taken 3 major trips in the last 3 months and my set has made it back home. The luggage did not break, crack or show any signs of distress which is often the case with other luggage who have traveled to NYC, Boston n New Orleans. I am very pleased with the set.
I bought 2 sets of luggage from Traveler's Choice. The 2nd set was the "Rome" 3 pc in silver for my husband because he thought these colors were too girly for him. We were very happy with both sets of our luggage. I purchased this set in the Arctic blue. It's a gorgeous blue and is true to the color in the photo. The zippers are thick and slide smoothly. During our trip, I noticed there was one spot where the zipper would catch on one of my pieces. In fear of the zipper head just popping off the track, I just zipped up the left and right zippers to meet at that point to prevent the zipper from messing up altogether. There was a plastic/chemical-ish smell to the luggage, as pointed out by other reviewers. I forgot to air them out for a few days as they recommended, but it was too late, as I realized it when it was time to pack. The smell never transferred to our clothing. I love the spinner wheels. They were a piece of cake to move around and the handles felt sturdy. One of my cases got dinged/dented from a heavy object, but it popped back to normal. It did leave a white mark on it where it flexed, though. I like this set over the "Rome" one because of the interior pockets and zippered pocket on the inner flap. Those pockets really come in handy.
I travel often throughout the US and to Europe. I wanted a lightweight, hard sided suitcase that is durable and would protect my belongings from damage. The Traveler's Choice Rome 2-Piece "Spinner" cases I ordered from Overstock.com arrived promptly, and were impressive in their construction, capacity and design. I really like them. Unfortunately, on my first trip to Europe with these suitcases (and the very first use of the larger bag) the larger suitcase arrived at my destination with a large crack in the case on the front of the case near the wheels. I am concerned that the type of plastic used in these cases is prone to this type of damage. I read some other reviews that mentioned the same problem, but decided to buy them anyway. I'm glad I purchased the replacement warranty with this set! I am going to look for another option for my next set of hardsided luggage.
Without a doubt, this is the best luggage for the money - actually for almost any amount of money. We bought two sets, the burgundy (red), and the blue. The pieces are so large and roomy that we actually only needed to buy one set, but for the value, we're glad we bought both. Note that the red set is only red on the front...it's a good idea to identify it personally somehow so you can find it on the luggage carousel, in case the black back is showing topside. The navy blue set is navy on all sides. As other reviewers have noted, these suitcases do need about 3 days of airing-out if you're sensitive to plastic smells. The zippers, handles, wheels, and corner protectors will meet or exceed any luggage-throwers tests. Some people might not find the small tote bag of much use, but I found it to be a perfect sized under-the-seat carry on. These are rugged pieces of luggage, and you can't go wrong buying a set.
